How to Use Video in Online Marketing

Updated on January 17th, 2022

Your online marketing strategy requires that you stay up on the latest trends, and even that you try to move ahead of the curve a little bit. One way to do that is to use video in online marketing.

Video provides a human connection to your audience. It can be engaging, and adding it to your website can be a good move in terms of creating a multi-media website that search engines like.

As you start to use video in online marketing, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Produce Useful Content

The first rule of online marketing with video is to produce useful content. Can your clients, customers, and website visitors learn something practical? Some of the best videos are how-to videos and tutorials. You can also provide reviews of products. These types of videos offer valuable information.

Your content should be helpful, whether you are providing tips, or showing step-by-step instructions.

2. Focus on Clients or Your Audience

Consider producing videos that include members of your audience. You can use testimonials, or even ask your customers to send in videos of them review your products, or using the products. You can use video in online marketing this way to better connect with your audience and to provide further interest to the audience.

3. Share Your Videos

Don’t forget to share your video as much as possible. You can upload your video to YouTube and/or Facebook. Embed the video on your website. Don’t forget to share the video around with others on social media. Let your network know about the video, sharing on Facebook and Twitter, as well as Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest. Wherever your audience goes, you need to be there with your video.

As you schedule your video, don’t forget to share it at different times of the day. Don’t share it all at once. Stagger your sharing so that it different people see it at different times.

4. Optimize Videos for SEO

Optimization isn’t just for written blog posts and web pages. You should also make sure SEO is in the mix when you use video in online marketing. You can use keywords and text to describe your video, keeping it in your metadata. When you upload a video to YouTube, you can create a description of the video. Use this as a chance to include keywords. When you embed your video on your website, you can do so as part of a post. Having words around it can help, as can producing a transcript.

5. Know What You Aim for with Your Videos

Finally, make sure you understand what you are aiming for with your videos. Do you want them to look professional? If so, you need to have the right equipment for lighting and backdrop. On the other hand, you might simply want to produce videos that are “real” and not as polished. Understanding your audience and knowing what they want can help you put together the right videos for your situation and your goals.
