I Spent A Lot of Money On Booze, Birds, And Fast Cars – George Best
“I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”
– George Best
George Best lived his life in extremes: one of the most promising soccer players to come out of Britain, he was Manchester United’s top goal-scorer for five consecutive years. Off the field, he lived large, opening nightclubs, restaurants and fashion boutiques, marrying models, and drinking himself into oblivion through his most active years (to the point of stealing money from ladies’ handbags to fund another binge, acting belligerently through talk shows, and assaulting everyone from police officers to his own girlfriends). In the end, he had lost his considerable fortune, retired earlier than the average footballer, and succumbed to liver damage. Squandered, indeed.
