There is no shortage of payments companies set up for both businesses and customers. But, what if you’re an online merchant or someone who still has friends and family overseas? Some of those online payments platforms may not allow you to send and receive cross-border payments.

1. Alipay

Launched in 2004 by the Alibaba Group, Alipay is China’s most popular, and largest, third party payment solution. While it may appear to be the Chinese equivalent of PayPal, the Alipay app is able to transfer money to friends or family, split bills, send people gifts, and make both online and offline purchases.

There are aren’t any currency conversion fees, but merchants are charged a flat 3.5 percent per transaction. The company recently launched in Europe to help Chinese tourists for their needs while abroad.

2. PayU

Founded in 2011 in Turkey, PayU is one of the most popular global payment platforms. It allows users to develop and integrate online payment services, build an online point of sale system (POS), offers tokenization, and recurring payments.

What makes PayU stand out from other payment platforms is that it focuses on growth markets like India, Russia, Nigeria, Poland, Brazil, and Mexico.

3. Citrus Pay

Headquartered in Mumbai, India, Citrus Pay started in 2011. It’s become one of the most popular platforms in India thanks to being easy-to-use, secure, and offering features like a digital wallet and the ability for merchants to offers one click checkout for their customers. The company offers a flat and transparent transaction fees of 1.99 percent + 2.5 percent

Citrus Pay was acquired by Naspers, the company who owns PayU, in September 2016.

4. Adyen

Built by a team of payment professionals in 2006, Adyen is headquartered in the Netherlands, and has a new unique infrastructure that covers the entire payment flow, from checkout to settlement. Adyen also provides advanced payment solutions for more than 4,500 customers.

The company also happens to have the widest point-of-sale payment (POS) acceptance network in Europe, but also supports over 250 payment methods globally.

5. Ingenico Group

Ingenico is a French-based company that has been around since 1980. It’s original business model was to manufacture of (POS) payment terminals, but it now includes complete payment software for businesses and customers.

The company operates in every region of the world and has an extensive portfolio of over 150 different international and local payment methods for online and mobile payments. This has made it more convenient for eCommerce merchants to accept payments through digital wallets and quick response (QR) codes.

6. VoguePay

Founded in 2012, VoguePay is based out of Nigeria. It’s since become Africa’s biggest payment processor, but serves residents in North America, Asia, and Europe. It’s secure, user-friendly, and focuses on to close the payment gap between Africa and the rest of the world.

Users can accept and send cross-border payments, it has a handy built-in currency conversion platform that allows businesses to perform inter-currency transaction. It also has a simple application program interface (API) so that you can customize the platform to fit your exact needs.

7. Conekta

Conketa was founded in 2011 by three engineers from the University of Waterloo in Canada with the purpose of optimizing eCommerce in Latin America. Today, it is one of the most popular payment gateways in Mexico. It easily integrates with Shopify and Magento and users can make payments via credit, debit, cash, and interest-free deferred payments from banks like Banorte and Santander.

8. Pagar.me

Launched in 2013, Pagar.me is Brazil’s first ever developer friendly payment processor. The platform provides merchants with the ability to accept online payments. With an easy-to-understand API, merchants can personalize the payment gateway and place it directly onto their website.

9. Pin Payments

Australia’s first all-in-one online payment API was founded in 2011. This allows you to add seamless, multi-currency card payments, along with being able to send payments and even accept cards in person with a mobile point of system. It can also sync with Shopify, Magento, and Xero.

10. Payfort

One of the newer global payment platforms is Payfort. It’s currently operating in six Middle Eastern countries and is helping online merchants sell globally to more than 80 countries. Since around 80 percent of eCommerce transactions in this region are paid by cash-on-delivery, PayFort has services that let businesses accept cash payments for online purchases.

The company also has shopping cart integration with 50 different companies and the ability to build your own payment stack.
