3 Ways to Create An Abundance Mindset

Posted on November 17th, 2016
Abundance Mindset

I’m at a point in my career where I’m not really worried about money like I used to be.

It took a while to get there and much of it has to do with the fact that I’ve reached a tipping point in my business. However, I’m convinced that a lot of this has to do with the fact that I spent the better part of two years working on my own abundance mindset.

What is an abundance mindset and how does it help?

An abundance mindset is when you believe in opportunity and the ability to earn money even when things aren’t looking too good.

Truth be told, this was the only way I was able to muster up the courage to quit my job. It was also the only thing that helped me with the emotional rollercoaster I was experiencing my first two years in business.

Furthermore, I still have to rely on my abundance mindset sometimes. Just recently I tested this by booking a business retreat in Puerto Rico. I didn’t have the money in cash (at least not without dipping into my savings) so I slapped it on my credit card.

At first, I was freaking out, but then I realized I have the ability to make any kind of money I want. I clung on to my abundance mindset and I was fine. Not only did I pay off my card in full, I also had plenty for my personal savings.

Now, I don’t recommend doing this if you haven’t really worked on your own abundance mindset and your ability to see opportunities to earn money. I’ve had quite a bit of practice taking financial acts of faith so I’m confident I can figure stuff out. That being said, here’s how you can get there.

Start asking yourself “How can I afford this?”

Perhaps the easiest way to start creating an abundance mindset is to change some of the words you are using as it pertains to money. For example, instead of saying “I can’t afford this” start asking yourself “How can I afford this?” The former defeats you whereas the latter pushes you to work.

This is exactly what I did when I booked that trip to Puerto Rico and it resulted in me booking new clients, designing t-shirts for my brand and coming up with a new product idea.

Identify any negative beliefs about money.

When it comes to money, we’ve been affected by the world around us. Our modus operandi is to usually see the lack of money rather than the abundance of it. Many of us learned this at home and from society in general. It’s also partially biological.

That being said, you don’t have to be victim to negative money stories. That’s why the next step in cultivating an abundance mindset is to determine what the stories are.

For example, I had a story that I would never earn much money because I was a creative. I also had a fear of outearning men. Once I identified the stories, I was able to see how ridiculous they actually are and change my beliefs.

Make the commitment.

The final step to creating an abundance mindset is to commit to it. I vigilantly check my thoughts and feelings about money every day. It’s only by doing this that I can make sure I always remain as optimistic about money as I can. As a business owner, you’ll need to commit to this practice in order to really see its benefits.
