3 Online Payment Tips That Improve Conversion

Online Payment Tips

One of the most common misconceptions that business owners believe is that if they get more traffic to their site, the more people you’ll have to convert into customers. Unfortunately, that’s not the case a majority of the time. Thankfully, you can boost your sales by implementing these three quick and easy online payment tips.

1. Make customers feels safe.

“Most customers are rightly concerned about the common problem of credit card fraud,” Matt Doyle, Excel Builders tells Business 2 Community. “If you haven’t done enough to make your website look professional and trustworthy, certain customers are going to hear the alarm bells getting louder and louder the closer they get to filling in their information.”

In fact, eConsultancy found that more than 58% of people backed out of completing a purchase due to safety concerns.

Boost your customer’s confidence by creating a secure and professional-appearing webpage, adding recognizable logos, and testing your page design. One of the easiest ways to do this is by obtaining a SSL certificate. This authenticates the identity of the website and encrypts the data that’s being transmitted.

We’ve also found at Due that being transparent and upfront about your security also helps. For example, we recently published a blog post that detailed our PCI compliance policy. We also listen to what our customer’s are saying and proudly share their reviews for other potential customers to see.

2. Offer a faster checkout and accept multiple payment options.

When your customers have to go through several steps or redirect them to an external payment provider to make a payment, the greater the chance they’ll end-up just abandoning the cart. For example, if you require your customers to create an account in order to make a purchase, you can be certain that you’re going to miss out on a lot of sales.

This is because so many people are now using their mobile devices to shop online. And they don’t want to fill-out a lengthy form to create an account. Instead, provide them with a “Guest Checkout” option so that they don’t have to create an account.

Also, make sure that you accept as many payment options as possible. This can include processing payments via PayPal, credit/debit cards, eChecks, and cryptocurrencies. The reason? It makes the customer feel more comfortable and doesn’t limit you to just one type of payment method. Remember, you can’t use every kind of payment. However, you should definitely test out your site to see which payments your customers prefer.

3. Have clear and visible CTAs.

When your website is easy-to-navigate and clearly explains what you want your customers to do next, the less likely they’ll be to get frustrated and leave. One of the most effective ways to do this is by having clear and visible calls-to-actions, such as “buy now,” “order now,” “checkout here,” and “complete your order” throughout the payment process.

This begins with positioning your CTA buttons front and center, making sure that they are large enough for thumbs to click, and are a color that doesn’t blend into your site’s background.

If you’re unsure, crate a couple of different buttons and test them out to see which ones are the most effective.
