One of the questions I get asked the most is how I’m able to interject my personality into my online brand.
Actually, these are the exact questions I get that pertain to this:
- How do I find my unique voice?
- How can I promote myself without being sleazy?
- How can I find my unique angle?
The answer to all of these is the same: Put your personality into your own online brand. No one has your same experience or your same qualities, so this is the easiest way to make sure you find your unique position in the market.
The question then becomes – how do you do this? Here are just a few of the ways you can interject your personality into your online brand.

ToggleWrite the way you talk.
People often times tell me how they love the no-nonsense approach to my online brand.
To be honest, this isn’t done on purpose. I simply write the way I talk and I just so happen to have a no-nonsense kind of personality.
This means that finding your voice is actually pretty easy. If you’re trying to find your voice as a content creator for your online brand, look no further than your voice in real life. Don’t worry about not being perfect either, you can refine it as you go.
Don’t worry about not being perfect either, you can refine it as you go. For example, I’m definitely not as angry as I used to be in my online content, though my previous anger made for some good one liners.
Find colors that match your personality.
This may sound weird, but hear me out. When I was going through my “Great Rebrand of 2015″ I had a long talk with my web designer about how I’d changed as a person and how I wanted the new color palette to reflect that.
My old color palette was very bold and striking. It seemed like way too much. Meanwhile, my personality, while definitely bold, also had it’s softer more feminine side. I wanted her to come up with something that encompassed both sides – and she nailed it.
This became the foundation for a color palette, a new logo, a style guide my entire team uses and the new website design as a whole.
Show some parts of your real life.
Another way to use your personality in your online brand is to show aspects of your real life. There are plenty of tools out there that let you do this, from IG stories to Facebook Live.
Use these tools to your advantage and show your audience different sides to your life. For example, I sometimes show the goofy things my office mates and I do at our coworking space. Or, I’ll share my travels.
Now, I want to mention that there are limits to this. I’m certainly not on Snapchat while I’m on a first date with someone. I’m also not putting my grandma on Facebook Live unless she wants to be there. Use your discernment here.
Final Thoughts
There are lots of little and easy ways you can interject your personality into your own unique online brand. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it is a good place to start.
