One of the most important decisions you’ll ever make in your business (and, possible, life) is trying to find a cofounder. Not everybody you encounter in your life will fit the bill, and founders find this out early on in their business. The magical ingredients to a great business partnership are not dissimilar to that of a marriage: trust, accountability, an idea of what you’re getting into, and the ability to have difficult conversations.
Due cofounder John Rampton gave his two cents to FoundrMag on how he builds close working relationships with cofounders: “I recommend that anyone in this situation start by working on a project or two together. This makes it easier to get to know if you’ll work well together. Much like a spouse, this is a person you’re going to be working countless hours with on a project that will have ups and downs, so make sure you don’t get into a business relationship with someone you don’t trust.”
