“Investing should be more like watching paint dry or watching grass grow. If you want excitement, take $800 and go to Las Vegas.”
-Paul Samuelson
This quote applies more to the Millennials than any other generation. We have become so accustomed to instant gratification that we only perceive the short-term returns of an investment rather than the long-term. This disenfranchises many people from investing (especially of the younger generations) as they don’t see the value as worthwhile.
Investing is more apt as watching paint dry; it is a long process that over time has lasting and impactful results. Granted, it is not to be said that you should avoid risk all together. But if that is all you’re after, then maybe Las Vegas is more the place for you.
