“Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.”
– Oscar Wilde
Put in less eloquent words, YOLO. While it’s certainly a good idea to be responsible with money, accrue as little debt as possible and pay it off as soon as you can, and add to your 401(k) frequently to be able to build a nice and comfortable nest egg on, it’s also important to remember to have fun once in awhile.
Oscar Wilde, who lived as large as he could in the restrained Victorian society he was born in, leaves us innumerable lessons on how a person should live and love, often extolling the virtues of a life lived carefreely and on harnessing an individual’s passions to create art and live more fully, all the way until his untimely demise. So treat yourself, and echo the words of Oscar Wilde when you do: “We are dining on the Duchess tonight!”
