“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.”
-Oprah Winfrey
One of my brother’s favorite things to say to me is “ask, because the worst they an say is ‘no’.” He uses this technique in so many aspects of his life, but the most recent was at an Apple store. I had purchased a brand new iPhone which was DOA, unfortunately it didn’t fully brick until I had gotten home.
So we had the ultimate pleasure of driving all the way back out to the store to get a useable phone. I asked if there was anything else they could do (after all it was a little inconvenient having to drive back) and I got a free pair of headphones. Now, why am I telling you this? So we can all get free headphones?
Well no, not really.
The moral of this story is if you don’t put yourself out there, then there isn’t a way to succeed. If you don’t ask, then you definitely aren’t getting those headphones. If you don’t start a journey, then you are never going to finish it. The bumps and bruises along the way are just a part of our adventure. We can’t be afraid of rejection or failure because those are what teach us to do better the next time.
This is your moment.
Own it!
