“A real entrepreneur is somebody who has no safety net underneath them.”
-Henry Kravis
A safety net can be defined, in very literal terms, as a net placed to catch an acrobat or similar performer in case of a fall. But it can also be described as a safeguard against possible hardship or adversity. Unfortunately, entrepreneurs don’t always have that type of safeguard.
Not expecting that safety net to be there can make you independent, and I feel, even lift the burden of the anxiety that comes with “what if”.
- What if you can’t afford rent?
- What if your startup fails?
- What if you’re living on top ramen like you did in college?
Know that you can’t guard against possible hardship or adversity, but you can face the adversity head-on, gaining strength as you go. Work like there is no safety net, if you fail, fail fast, and get right back up to start again.
