“Having money is a way of being free of money.”
– Albert Camus
Money is one of the great contradictory things of our planet: it has no bearing on which values a person should hold, yet it crushes nations. You’ve got to spend money to make money. And the biggest money problems come from not having nearly enough – so when Albert Camus muses that having money is a way of being free of money, he is completely, as always, right on the money.
After all, the only time people think about money at all is when they’re fretting over it; people who have money don’t bat an eyelash at spending it, they don’t need to count it.
And yet, the weight of money is so crushing the best thing one can do is to make it, in order to be rid of its pressure.
