The trends the company foresees for the next year largely involve the growth of tech in many sectors.
Data Science and Automation
According to Glassdoor, the coming year is likely to be about data science and automation for all sorts of jobs.
First of all, Glassdoor sees human resources moving toward data science in order to provide better outcomes for hiring, recruiting, and more. It’s even interesting to note that technology can help with analyzing pay gaps in workplaces. Making the process more transparent can help reduce the pay gap and encourage better fairness.
We can see evidence of automation in many areas. Glassdoor points to financial professionals and tools that change the way they do their jobs.
This isn’t just about fintech, though. It also includes regtech. We’re seeing a surge in third parties that help manage different aspects of companies’ businesses. While Glassdoor doesn’t specifically call out regtech, it is a big part of the automation that’s coming to help companies with compliance and other issues.
Automation is everywhere, and technology is changing how just about all of us do our jobs. From writing to factory jobs, technology is a major part of what many of us do.
Changing Benefits
One of the more interesting trends expected by Glassdoor is the idea that company benefits packages are changing. Interestingly, there will likely be a move back toward traditional benefits, like healthcare and 401k matching.
Even though many young millennials want help with student loan repayment, healthcare and 401k matching remain big deals. Glassdoor sees more companies ditching splashy benefits like gym memberships and focusing more on the traditional benefits that seem to make employees happier.
And, even though Glassdoor sees the gig economy almost on the verge of maxing out, there is something that the company sees as holding over from the gig economy: flexibility.
Employees continue to want work life balance and technology makes that easier than ever. Glassdoor points out that services like Uber and Airbnb are here to stay, but that some jobs don’t lend themselves to piecemeal gigs. Even the more complex jobs, though, are learning from the gig economy.
Remote work and flexible schedules are becoming more common. Even if you can’t do your job entirely from home, it’s often possible to telecommute two or three days a week, or to create a more flexible schedule that matches your preferences.
Technology is changing the way we work and manage our careers. This isn’t going to change in 2017 and beyond. Indeed, it’s important for all of us to pay attention to these trends and brush up on our skills so we remain relevant.
