“If all the economists were laid end to end, they’d never reach a conclusion.” -George Bernard Shaw
Having graduated in Economics, Shaw’s quote kinda makes me want to smack him, but in some senses it is very correct. Economists don’t always seem to agree with one another.
It’s not that economists are born to be argumentative (though some certainly are) it’s that economics trains you to think in a different way, often coming to conclusions that no one else can or will see.
Like any other profession, it’s just a different way of thinking. The important thing to take away from it is that we all need to be more open minded, and try to see what others see instead of just jumping into the fray and telling them they are wrong. In other words, come to a conclusion together.
