FDR Quote – Thrill of Creative Effort

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “Happiness if not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.”

You know that exuberant feeling of achievement when you’ve completed an arduous task? A task that you may or may not have been putting off? We can’t help but feel proud of ourselves when we have put forth great effort in a project. That’s natural. But sitting there like a bump on a log just isn’t in our nature. Sure we might enjoy relaxing for a bit, but the real joy comes from moving, doing. Even in a wheelchair Roosevelt stood at the helm of one of the most powerful nations in the world, no doubt with plenty of creative effort on his part. Let us be inspired by his words, and not sit around when we could be achieving.
