“Unfortunately most ways of making big money take a long time. By the time one has made the money one is too old to enjoy it.”
– Ian Fleming
Most of the time, people do not wake up finding themselves instantly wealthy overnight, and those who have, a lot of them, often just aren’t prepared for that amount of money. Often, the only big money worth making is the kind that takes a long time, a life’s journey, and in these cases, the money is just the cherry on top of a cherry of fulfilling work. Ian Fleming was born into some amount of wealth, but the lasting legacy, he carved for himself.
Inspired by the experience that he accumulated in the Naval Intelligence Division in World War II, and then as a journalist, he created a character that would transcend the pages of seductive pop lit into one of the biggest and and certainly longest lasting movie franchises of all time: James Bond.
Perhaps Fleming was too old to enjoy the fruits of his labour, but generations of film-goers get to enjoy it for him.
