As you get ready to build a business or live the lifestyle you want, it can be tough to figure out where to start.

While I’m not one to follow a guru in everything I do, there are some great, helpful tips and tricks out there. Almost everyone has something valuable to share. When I go through what Tony Robbins offers, I often find quite a few useful nuggets. One of my

When I go through what Tony Robbins offers, I often find quite a few useful nuggets. One of my favorite offerings from Tony Robbins, though, is the Ultimate Success Formula.

If you want to grow your business, starting with the Ultimate Success Formula can be a good way to go. Here’s how to use Tony Robbins’ formula to take your business to the next level:

Know Your Outcome

I love the fact that Robbins starts with the end result. There’s no point in moving forward if you don’t know what you hope to accomplish.

If you want to grow your business, you need to know what success looks like. Look ahead and think about what you hope your business will look like down the road. Setting the right goals is your first step.

Don’t just reel off some of the more common business goals, either.

This actually takes some time and effort. Sit down and really think about what you want from your business. Do you have a purpose for it? Do you want it to become self-sustaining?

When I looked at my freelancing business and was trying to figure out how to proceed, my goals were pretty simple. I just wanted to get to the point where I could charge $X for my work. I figured that level would allow me to work fewer hours a week and still support myself and my son.

All I really want from my work is to be able to have the freedom and flexibility to carry on with my community activism, care for my son, and travel a few times a year.

You probably have different outcomes in mind for your business. Maybe you want to build something that your children can inherit later. Perhaps you want to grow your business in a way that benefits others and society.

Whatever your goals, think about your desired outcome. Get clear on what success looks like for you and your business.

That end point is where you need to start.

Figure Out the Why

This is one of the most important aspects of the Ultimate Success Formula. If you don’t understand your motivation, there is no point.

Look into why you want to grow your business. Look at why you want your outcome.

When you understand your motivation, you are more likely to stick it out when things get tough. Plus, you will know your values and have a better idea of whether or not your long-term business goals mesh with what matters to you.

But, really, when the chips are down, and you aren’t sure if you can keep going, your why is what gets you over that hump. Once you know your desired business outcome, it’s time to dig into the why.

Only then can you consistently grow your business, even when you feel like giving up.

Take Massive Action

When you get to this step in the Tony Robbins Ultimate Success Formula, it’s easy to get stymied. After all, massive action can be a difficult thing.

I actually don’t think that massive action is the answer to everything. In some cases, I think this can be tweaked to small actions.

Sometimes, it’s the small, doable things that keep you going as you work to grow your business. When you use this formula to transform your life or make major changes to turn things around, it can work really well.

It’s about taking a deep breath and digging deep. And then just going forward with a big action you can take to move your business to the next level.

But it really doesn’t have to be as massive as all that. Really, taking action is about identifying the steps you need to take in order to move to the next stage. At this point in the formula, it’s a good idea to write a plan. List out the actions you need to take in order to grow your business.

Once you know what you need to do, it’s time to take a step. It’s time to take action. Look for the first thing on the list and take an action that will help you cross of the first to-do. Don’t get caught up in the idea of it being “massive.”

Celebrate Your Progress

A lot of the time we save the celebration until the end of the journey. This is a quick way to give up.

This is a quick way to give up.

When you refuse to acknowledge and celebrate your progress, it’s easy to become disheartened. You get bogged down in the minutiae. You feel like progress doesn’t happen fast enough.

Instead of waiting, check in regularly to see what progress you’re making and then take some time to celebrate.

Your celebrations don’t have to be elaborate or expensive. There are plenty of ways to celebrate progress and success without spending a ton of money. Write yourself a note of congratulations. Have a small trophy or award made. Treat yourself to an ice cream (or another dessert). Take an afternoon “off” to relax and savor the progress.

Once you have your celebration, and pat yourself on the back, it’s time to move to the next action item on your list.

But there’s nothing wrong pausing to enjoy the good things you’ve done so far. It’s possible to set up progressively “better” ways of rewarding yourself as well. That way, as you grow your business, you can see celebrations that you really want to work for. It’s one of the best ways to stay motivated and look forward.

Change the Things that Don’t Work

Finally, make sure you evaluate as you go along. You want to change the things that don’t work for you.

Sometimes, as you work to grow your business, you discover that a strategy you thought was great really isn’t. There’s nothing wrong with that. Failure is an important part of growth and discovery. It’s a teacher.

We all mess up.

The key is to learn a lesson and then change your approach so that things work better next time. Don’t be afraid to tinker with your plan.

As you go along, pay attention to the things that work really well. Keep those strategies and build on them. But you should also pay attention to what’s not working at all. Those are the things you need to get rid of or change.

In some cases, you might find that it’s not so much a failure as it is a need to make things just a bit better. Look for tweaks that can lead to better results — especially if the tweaks mean you don’t have to work as much.

Bottom Line

You don’t have to follow the Tony Robbins Ultimate Success Formula to grow your business. However, it can offer you a framework to get started.

In the end, every business needs some sort of plan or framework. The important thing is to look ahead and think about where you want to be in five years, 10 years, or 20 years. Take the time to figure out what you want from your business and from life. Once you know those things, you

Once you know those things, you can put together a plan that will help you get there. Even if you change the plan a little later, you need a roadmap. Once you have that roadmap, you can grow your business and get closer to achieving your vision of success.
