Toggle1. Remember WHY You Do It
The first step is to remember why you do it. Why do you have a business? What are your aims and goals? When I don’t feel particularly motivated, I remind myself that I have a lot of interests and projects. If I had a “real” job, I wouldn’t have time for these things. Having my freelance business provides me with freedom and flexibility to do the things I love. This helps me stay motivated when I struggle.
2. Set Your Plan the Night Before
Before you go to bed, set your plan for the next day. Think about the most important items on your to-do list. Write them down so that you are ready to start your day. One of the reasons we often lose motivation is because we don’t know what to do next. Set your intention before you go to bed, and review it in the morning when you get up, and you will be more likely to stay motivated throughout the next day.
3. Get the Right Amount of Sleep
Your lifestyle habits can make a difference when you want to stay motivated. One of the most important items is the amount of sleep you get. Your sleep is important to your overall ability to stay motivated. When you’re tired, it’s harder to make decisions and avoid distractions.
Fatigue can drain your motivation and make it harder to focus on what matters and stay on task. If you want to make better decisions and stay motivated, it’s important to get enough sleep. You might be surprised at how much better you feel, and how much more you accomplish.
4. Celebrate Milestones
Break down big projects into smaller tasks that you can accomplish in a manageable way. Once you have done that, make it a point to celebrate your milestones. Figure out when you can celebrate, and make it a point to recognize your success. If you have a team, be sure to recognize the people that help. Include family members and others who are important to you. That way, it becomes a team effort and you can all motivate each other.
5. Take Time for You
When running a business, it’s easy to lose track of “you” time. However, it’s important that you take time out for you if you want to stay motivated. Take a break. Relax. Go on vacation. We all need to have this time to keep the creativity flowing and to stay on top of things. When you take time for you, it’s easier to stay motivated. Schedule time to do what you like to do so that you don’t end up burning out.
