Ben Graham - Be an Investor Not a Speculator

“The individual investor should act consistently as an investor and not as a speculator.”

-Ben Graham

You might think that an investor is just somebody who hands you a paycheck and steps away from the picture, but that’s not exactly the case. True, the root word ‘invest’ does mean to “put money to use by purchase or expenditure in something that potentially offers profitable returns”. However, invest also means “to use, give, or devote time to, for the purpose of achieving“. It’s a good possibility that a person putting money in your startup will cut you a check, but our first definition of invest is more on the speculatory side of things. True investment means giving both time and money towards the achievement.
