How Successful Business Owners Rebound After Setbacks

Gives-You-an-Opportunity-to-Improve-Your-Business

Everyone I know recently had a really bad week. From emergency room visits to business deals falling through, it seems as if everyone I know is going through it recently. However, work isn’t going to stop just because we’re having a hard time. This begs the question – how can successful business owners rebound after a bad week?

In true writer fashion, I started asking around. I asked my friends and colleagues how they rebound after a bad week. Here’s what I got.

Focus on the positive.

One thing that helps all successful business owners rebound after setbacks is to focus on the positive. I don’t mean this in an “ignorance is bliss” kind of way. The reality is successful business owners readily admit and accept that things are going wrong, but they choose to focus on what’s working.

For example, I recently experienced several setbacks all within the same week. Was it hard? Yes. But I decided to focus on the good things – like major campaigns and adventures with friends. It helped me start coming out of a funk. As Tony Robbins says, you can’t be grateful and fearful at the same time.

Learn from the situation.

Once the dust has settled, successful business owners rebound by learning what they can from the situation. They look at the data of what transpired and look for the ways they could have improved.

In doing so, they make sure not to blame other people. Successful business owners know that the only thing they can control is themselves. They also know that there are circumstances that are sometimes beyond their control.

In other words, when looking at what can be improved, they mostly look at how they can improve. Maybe that means getting better at delegating. Or maybe that means not procrastinating. Maybe it even means not letting their emotions take over.

Whatever it is, successful business owners rebound by noting how they can do better next time. This brings me to my next point…

They move on.

One way that successful business owners rebound is by letting the past go and moving on. As I mentioned in the last section, they focus on the next time.

In my experience, part of what separates successful business owners from those that are not is the ability to even believe in a next time. They believe in an abundance of opportunity and they believe it will come to them.

They are realistic.

Up until this point, we’ve noted how successful business owners focus on the positive. We also noted how they are able to move on to the next project.

In addition to being positive and letting things go, successful business owners are also realists. They know things aren’t perfect and that setbacks are a part of the game. They know they will get rejected. They know there will be good weeks and bad weeks.

This is very different than being a cynic. A cynic will assume everything they try will fail. A realist knows they can succeed but that it won’t be without its challenges.

Final Thoughts

There will come a time when as a business owner you will need to know how rebound. Use these tips to help you get out of a funk and move on.
