8 Great Apps for News for Business Owners

apps guide

Apps for news keep getting better. Sure, instant news has always been a big selling point for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. But companies are revolutionizing the way apps for news deliver the goods.

The apps for news continue to get more sophisticated and are starting to provide unique and unmatched designs for you to keep up with current events. So whether you’re a news junkie or just want to keep up with what’s going on in your industry, it’s easier than ever to stay up to date with today’s trends.

Here are eight great apps for news that you should download right now to stay informed.

AP News

The government, news and business industries all rely  on the Associated Press, and you should too.

The AP News app, provides a default news feed with all of the AP’s breaking news stories. Furthermore, if your device is geo-location enabled, it will provide your weather reports, too. The AP News app is also very user friendly.. It’s easier than ever to read an article and then share it with friends.

Additionally, the AP News app also lets users custom design your news feed. Simply input your settings, and the AP News app will deliver your personalized news feed to all your devices.

Feedly

RSS-style news feeds were all the rage a few years back. However, most tech companies abandoned the RSS platform a few years ago.  One enduring RSS standout is the outstanding Feedly.

Feedly lets you designate the news sources you want to create your feed. This can include online news sites, blogs, or YouTube channels. You can also program key words into the app as well. Each time you open Feedly, it populates with news articles based on the parameters you set.

Feedly also makes it easy to flag a story to read later or share it with your friends.

Twitter

Chances are you already lean hard on Twitter as a social media platform. Most people use the app to opine on things, or keep in touch with friends. But Twitter is great for news, too.

Twitter users can follow all of the best news organizations present on the platform, and stay informed. Additionally, Twitter is a quick read, too. Adding news organizations to your feed makes it  easy to thumb through breaking news really fast.

Twitter users who want to track the news a bit more aggressively can also use the Twitter list building function. Lists allow users to organize the various news organizations, journalists, or experts in a given field to stay even more informed.

LinkedIn

For news related to your career industry, LinkedIn is a great choice. Follow the thought leaders, companies, or publishers that are most relevant to you, and you’ll receive regular updates about your industry.

One of the best parts about LinkedIn is that because everything is tied together under your professional profile, you can build your brand and keep up on news at the same time. By sharing relevant articles with your network or making smart and thoughtful comments, you’ll be seen as a leader in your industry while keeping up with what’s going on in the world.

Pocket

If you’re one of those people who never seems to have time to get past reading the headlines, Pocket is for you. When you’re browsing and see an interesting article, you can save it for later when you have more time to read it. No more setting reminders for yourself to go back to an article or, worse, losing the article and never being able to track it down again.

The app also recently launched a “Recommended” feature, which gives users personalized news recommendations and allows them to see what their friends are reading and saving.

Flipboard

While Flipboard is great on smartphones, it is really a transformative app for larger tablet devices. The app, available on iOS or Android, includes feeds you select, whether from news sources, blogs, or social media. It transforms them into a digital magazine format that is unmatched by anything else out there. It’s one of the greatest apps for news that I’ve used.

Flipboard has a unique design, from the stylish format it uses to present your feed to the way readers “flip” to the next item. Similar to reading a glossy paper magazine, it can utterly change the way you consume information. The ability to save items to read later or access your Flipboard account online further underscores the value of this great app.

News360

Like Flipboard, News 360 allows you to select the topics you care about and organize them into an easy-to-read format.  News360 also offers a beautiful user experience, and you can connect it to Facebook, Twitter, iMessage and Apple Watch, as well as integrate it with Pocket, Instapaper, and Evernote.

With all these features, it’s no wonder that News360 is one of the most well-known apps when it comes to news and current events.

Unread

Also much like Flipboard, Unread is a great app for reading if great presentation is a critical part of your experience. It transforms items in your feed into an elegant, easily read font and background.

Navigation between the current article you’re reading and others in your feed is easy with thoughtfully designed swiping motions, and it is easy to mark and save items for later reading as well.

Unread is available for Apple mobile devices. It’s another one of the great apps for news!

Final Thoughts

While everyone should be keeping up with the news to some degree, it’s more important that business owners know what’s going on in the world and within their industries so that they can adjust their business plans accordingly.

There are a multitude of choices when it comes to where you get your news, but these apps are great for busy people who are always on the go since they offer a condensed and easy-to-scan version of the news you need every day.
