4 Mobile Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

Updated on June 14th, 2022
Mobile Marketing

Ever looked at a table of millennials and seen them all buried in their smartphones? If you haven’t, you’re probably lying. Mobile devices like smartphones and tablets allow us to connect and “stay plugged-in” at all times. According to Nielsen, about 98% of millennials own a smartphone with Gen X not far behind at 96%. Smartphone usage is here to stay and engagement is increasing by the day. This makes mobile marketing a highly effective way to get directly in-front of your customers.

Whether it’s a mobile check-in or a QR code coupon, there are plenty of ways to utilize mobile marketing for your small business. Here are four mobile marketing tips that you should be using today:

  1. Build a Mobile App

If you haven’t done so already, you should absolutely build a mobile application for your business. While mobile apps will often cost you a pretty penny, they’re most definitely worth it. About 80% of smartphone users use their apps everyday, just think about how many conversions you can create from that. If you’re a SaaS company, have your dev team allocate some of their resources into building out an application. If you do not have access to a development team, there are plenty of places to look.

One of my favorite places to find quick and affordable tech talent is Upwork. Upwork gives you access to a network of thousands of developers all around the world with varying rates and skill sets. You can set a fixed price for your project to be paid upon completion so you won’t spend a dime without a finished product that’s sufficient.

  2. Mobile Payments

Regardless of what you’re selling, you should definitely look into incorporating mobile payments. Modern payment technology is opening new doors for convenient and secure mobile payment options. Digital wallets and other contactless payment technology allow users to pay directly from their mobile devices. Statistically, mobile payments haven’t yet taken a majority, but usage is growing by the day. Take the time and research a payments platform that allows your business to incorporate mobile payments.

  3. Offer Deals and Coupons

A recent study suggests that 96% of consumers use coupons, not only that but the redemption rate for mobile coupons is 10x higher than print coupons. Whether you send a coupon via text or email, the customer can store these codes in their phone so they’ll never shop without them. You can incentivize your email marketing campaigns with these various deals and coupons. If you make the coupon codes exclusive to your marketing campaign, your conversion rates will surely increase.

  4. Social Media Marketing

The term “Instagram Model” was created as a not-so endearing term for an individual who essentially uses Instagram as their modeling agency. For many, this strategy was a genius way to get exposure and establish a career. That being said, social media is a marketing goldmine. While it’s not necessarily easy, there are plenty of strategies to utilize social media marketing if you’re a small business. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes, what would you want to see on an Instagram feed or a tweet. Larger companies dedicate entire departments to establishing a company social media presence, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t join the trend.

With mobile usage increasing by the day, it’s important that you keep your business operations up to speed. Use these four mobile marketing tips and get to work!
