3 Ways to Increase Your ROI When Hiring a Coach For Your Business

Posted on February 6th, 2020

Small business owners tend to invest quite a bit of money into their businesses each year. If you’re new to self-employment or are looking to break into a new field, you may consider hiring a coach to help you succeed.

Working with a coach to help your bottom line is very common but it can also be quite the monetary investment. Depending on what type of coaching you need, you could easily end up paying $75+ per hour or more of their time which can add up.

No one likes to waste money especially when it comes to your livelihood. That being said, you’ll want to ensure you have some positive ROI after hiring a coach. Here are three ways to do it.

Be Sure to Pinpoint Your Actual Issues Early On

Business coaching is supposed to provide you with solutions and show you ways that you can take action to meet your goals. You can’t do that if you don’t get honest about your true issues and pinpoint areas that could use improvement.

When you start working with a coach, don’t waste time being shy and dancing around the issue. Be vulnerable and confront it head-on. That way, your coach can work with you to create a strategy including action steps you can take to earn that wonderful break through.

Commit to Doing the Work

Don’t consider working with a coach just because it sounds nice or other people are taking this route to improve their businesses. Also, don’t hire a coach with the expectation that they will solve all your problems for you.

It’s important to realize that you have to be dedicated and work super hard if you want to see results. Your coach can only take you so far. You need to implement the action steps and go above and beyond if you want to increase your ROI.

When I hired a freelance writing coach, I did exactly what was suggested. It was hard work. I made sure I completed every exercise I was given and communicated clearly with my coach throughout the entire process.

In just a few weeks, I landed new clients and earned five times what I paid my coach.

Don’t Let Some Services Go Unused

When hiring a coach for your business, make sure you get the most bang for your buck by utilizing all the services they provide. If your coach offers weekly or monthly accountability calls, make sure you schedule them.

If your coach will be available via email for questions, advice, and feedback, make sure you continue to utilize their help.

After a few weeks or months of working together, ask your coach to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses.

Finally, if you feel like you should be receiving more value and challenges, be blunt and let your coach know. Be clear about your intentions and short and long-term goals.

Final Thoughts About Hiring a Coach

Hiring a coach can be a huge financial investment. Working with a coach to receive the best ROI also involves hard work, dedication, and great communication on both ends as well. You will want to make sure the coach is the right person for your needs and you also want to make sure you’re in the right place in your career to work with them.

Don’t be shy about trying out more than one coach. If the fit is not there, the fit is not there. You are the boss and hiring them to provide you with a service.

Make sure you and your business coach are both putting in 100 percent if you want to see the best results and earn your investment back over and over again.
