3 Benefits of Regularly Attending Conferences

Cities For Networking

Cities For Networking I recently came back from attending my sixth conference in 2017. Yes, you read that correctly – six. Truth be told, I did not plan this, it kind of just happened. That being said, I did recently get asked about why I attend conferences so regularly. More specifically, I was asked about the benefits of attending conferences.

Before getting into the exact benefits of attending conferences, I want to note that the benefits aren’t always about business. In fact, sometimes it has seemingly nothing to do with business but it improves your life in other ways (which then positively affects your business).

Benefit #1: You learn new skills.

I have a mentor who often says, “What got you here won’t get you there.” Speaking from experience, this is so true. Additionally, once you reach “here” you’ll soon want to go “there.” This is totally normal human behavior because we’re always looking for ways to grow.

From a more pragmatic standpoint, you need to learn new skills in order to stay relevant. Period. As such, this is probably one of the top benefits of attending conferences.

Benefit #2: You push past limitations.

At most of the conferences I attended this year, I had some sort of breakthrough. Some of the conferences were designed specifically for this reason, while others just gave me a new perspective I hadn’t thought of before.

In all of these scenarios, I was able to push past certain limitations. For example, I learned I was really good at sales at one conference (hence I’m making more money). At another conference, I learned that I have a lot of valuable information I can monetize. And even still at another, I learned that I had all the tools I needed to make whatever kind of money I wanted.

The interesting part is I already knew all of these things, I was just letting my conscious mind get in the way and sabotage me. By getting called out, I was able to push past the limitations.

Benefit #3: You meet amazing people.

Perhaps my favorite benefit of attending conferences is getting to meet new people. In my experience, once you start growing a business you want to be around people who get you. Additionally, you’ll always want to meet people you can learn from as well.

For example, I recently met people who are making millions in personal income from their businesses. This shows me it’s available to me too.

Or, I met someone who climbed out of $2 million of debt and now has a thriving business. This shows me it’s okay to take risks and that even my worst fears can be sorted out.

More importantly, I’ve made friends. Friends who support me and my vision. Friends who aren’t just working in a different way than most people, but also living in a different way.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from business coaching clients is how the people around them drag them down. As such, I always recommend that they start getting in rooms where they can meet people who will take them higher.

Final Thoughts

Attending conferences has not only improved my business, it’s also improved my life in countless ways. By gaining new perspectives, I’m able to design a life and business in the way I want. Additionally, by learning from other people, I see what’s possible.
