Why You Should Surround Yourself with Good People

Updated on October 13th, 2015

When running a business, one of the best things you can do is to surround yourself with good people. Building a good team is an important part of creating success as an entrepreneur.

Surrounding yourself with competent and inspiring people can keep you motivated and ensure that your business remains on the right track.

Delegate Tasks

One of the best things you can do is delegate tasks that are less efficient for you to accomplish. If writing isn’t your strong suit, it makes sense to hire a content team to take care of the words.

You might also discover that bookkeeping takes up a lot of your time. Outsourcing your payroll and other accounting duties, including tax preparation, can help you free up time for other “big picture” items that will ultimately help you grow your business more efficiently.

Pay attention to how you’re using your time and make it a point to notice the tasks that take a lot of your time but don’t yield the same results. Those are items that might need to be done, but not by you. Consider hiring good, reliable people to manage these tasks so that you are able to move forward with the things that will have the biggest impact.

When you have good people to delegate onto, you can feel good about your process — and about growing your business for the future.

Capitalize on Others’ Strengths

Another reason to surround yourself with good people is so that you can capitalize on their strengths. If there is an area where you are a little weaker, partnering with someone who can complement you is a good plan. You will be able to work together to create a more successful business.

This is something I’ve done in my own business. My business partner has strengths in the area of blog building and management, and I’m a writer. He handles the back end of our joint blogging ventures and takes care of monetization while I handle the writing aspects. It has worked well so far.

You can do something similar in your own business. When you feel overwhelmed by what you have to do — and when you are concerned that you don’t have the proper expertise, experience or connections — consider finding a partner or hiring other team members who can provide those strengths.

Find Inspiration and Accountability

Finally, when you surround yourself with good people it helps you find inspiration and accountability. A good mastermind group can keep you focused and on track.

Not only that, but you are more likely to be like the people you spend time with. If you spend time with entrepreneurs who have big plans, you will be more likely to be inspired and feel that you can accomplish your own goals.

The same is true when you surround yourself with friends and family who support you. Even if they aren’t entrepreneurs, they can provide you with solid support and help, and push you to be better. You want to surround yourself with good people who want to see you succeed. The positivity you have in your life as a result can be a great help to you and your business.
