make money online

You’re reading this guide because you want to make money online in 2022. You, my friend, are in the right place to make this happen.

Today, I’m going to teach you a few of the following things:

  • How to make money online (easily and without giving up your life)
  • How much you can earn online (You can earn a lot)
  • Where to go to make money online (exact websites to earn from that I personally have earned from)
  • How to actually get paid when doing this work (most people get screwed here)
  • How to make $100, $1,000, and even $5,000 extra a month online (with 5-20 hours a week)
  • How to make money while working a full-time job (I realize quitting isn’t and shouldn’t be an option)
  • What it takes to make money online (Cause you can do it)

No tricks here. I’m not trying to sell you a $79 course or upsell you into a course. I’m here to help people earn extra money. Did you know that the AVERAGE person goes bankrupt over $58 a month? Really, that’s it. It might seem sad but the average person in the United States goes bankrupt over $58 a month. $58 turns into $140-$180 in month two, depending on late fees. Twelve months later you’re in $4000 worth of debt. Then it really starts adding up. After 24 months, you’re now almost $30,000 in debt. The interest and late fees start adding up. You can’t make your bills, you can’t even make the penalties and fees. It starts killing you a little bit each and every day. Two years later, you file for bankruptcy.

So what I’m saying? I will teach you for free how to make an extra $100, $500, and $1,000 a month. If you are really good and push yourself, I don’t see any reason that in twelve months you could be making $5,000 a month extra. Not promising anything, but I’ve taught many people to do this. My system is replaceable and works for everyone. You can be an introvert and make money online. You can be an extrovert and make money online. You don’t have to be a genius. Just put in the work.

Why am I doing this? Pretty simple, I HATE debt. I was in $30,000 of debt at one point. I paid it off. I never want any of you to have to worry about that. This is your way out from the debt that has piled up for years.

What I will not do:

  1. I will not ask you to buy a “make money online” course from me.
  2. I will not ask you to give me a dollar.
  3. I will not ask you to spend thousands of dollars.

I will, however, ask the following of you:

  1. I will ask for you to put in a few extra hours every day.
  2. I will ask you to invest in yourself.
  3. I will ask you to take a risk. Take a risk on yourself.

Nearly 100 Ways to Make Money Online Right Now in Todays Market

You can join the ranks of those statistics by getting on board with the gig economy. Here are more than a hundred ways to make money online in 2022. Some can even be earned as a side business or gig.

Disclosure: Some of the links below that teach you how to make money online make me money. I’m self-serving a little. I want to make money along the way. When you click on some links, I make money. I stand behind all the companies I talk about. Teachers gotta make money somehow right?!

Consulting

TalMix

Consulting is a career that allows you to offer expert advice to others on a topic or niche you know well. In this role, you typically help other business people with a problem they are struggling to address or solve. It’s your advice and direction that can help those business people get to the solution they need.

Businesses willingly pay consultants because they need the assistance or they want to get the problem solved even faster. They would also like to work with someone who has experienced the same problem before and fixed it. That willingness to pay you means you can monetize your experiences and use these to help others.

To be successful and differentiate yourself in the consulting environment, you will need to select one niche rather than trying to be everything to everyone. That niche might be financial, HR, security, strategy, etc. Or, it might be a small business, health and wellness, retail, technology, etc. Make sure you have the skills, know-how, and passion to drive success in that consulting area.

Google AdSense

GoogleAdSense

Google AdSense allows you to earn money by allowing others to use your website as a billboard. It’s a passive stream of income that works and one I have used on my various websites. Google AdSense matches ads to your website based on your niche content and type of visitors. The ads are created and paid for by advertisers who want to promote their products to your same audience. Advertisers pay different prices based on the type of ads they want to place on your website.

To make it feel more seamless, you can customize the ads that appear on your website. Further options provide a way to also determine how many different ads, the frequency, and level of payment. It’s also free to join AdSense, so that also ensures more money goes into your pocket. If you are still not sure, try Google AdSense’s calculator, which helps you estimate what you can earn.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is another incredible passive income stream (a.k.a., make money while you sleep). You make money when an online retailer pays you a commission for traffic or sales that are generated from your referrals. Typically, these referrals come through contact on your website. However, it’s different than how Google AdSense works with a visual ad that appears on your website.

Instead, affiliate marketing works through links that are placed within content on your website. It could be in your blog or landing page content. Find many types of partnerships that are aligned with attractive products and services that your audience may enjoy learning more about. Take the time to research, measure, and track to ensure you are optimizing your efforts.

Virtual Assistant

Becoming a virtual assistant may be more in demand than ever as more companies work remotely. This is an incredibly diverse online role that can vary from company to company. It may include light bookkeeping, scheduling, email response, and other time-consuming tasks. The number of hours necessary will also vary, which makes it ideal to add as an additional gig job alongside freelance writing or anything else listed here on our top 100 online ways to make money online.

To become a virtual assistant, you need to have certain skills that help you complete these tasks, including being organized and adept with time management, having effective communication and interpersonal skills, and putting a good knowledge of the Internet and online tools to work. Rather than dealing with people in person, you’ll need to be good at handling various personalities through instant messaging, email, and audio and video conferences.

An average hourly rate for a virtual assistant can be anywhere from $15 to $30, depending on the experience and type of company.

Online Courses

More students, professionals, and even executives are turning to online education to expand their skills and make them more attractive job candidates. This provides a way to further monetize any unique knowledge and experience you may have and turn it into online course material.

There are many ways you can make money from online courses. You can charge an upfront fee for the entire course offered through your website. Or, you can offer the course for free but charge to certify or license each customer who takes the course. The course might be offered for free along with a product or service purchase. Other payment options include a subscription model or a tiered payment system.

Podcasting

Podcasts are growing in popularity as more people enjoy listening to them while working, exercising, and commuting. Since they can be accessed through a laptop or mobile device, podcasts are a portable and convenient way to learn more, listen in on some compelling discussions, and just be entertained in different ways. They are easy to set up and offer through a wide range of podcasting directories or apps.

Besides hosting a podcast, there are other ways to monetize this online job. You could add sponsors and advertising as well as affiliate marketing opportunities. Your podcast could be a way to channel many other online gigs, including courses, services, consulting, events, products, public speaking, and books and content.

While you may not get the multi-million dollar deal that Joe Rogan just received from Spotify, you can make money online with podcasts. Depending on how large you grow your audience and how many revenue streams you combine under your podcast moniker, you can make thousands to tens of thousands of dollars each month.

Book Sales

Unless you are one of the Stephen Kings of the author world, it may feel like a thankless job to write a book, that is if you follow the traditional book publication path. Start by taking the self-publication path so you can remain in control of your revenues from book sales. Sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble make self-publishing and sales easy.

From there, you can use targeted social media ads, guest blog posts and podcast interviews, and online events or courses to encourage more sales. If you work as a consultant, you can bundle the book into your consulting services package for additional value for clients and revenue for yourself.

Expertise for Clarity.fm

Clarity.fm is a one-on-one expert advice marketplace where people can come to get assistance with a wide variety of business topics, issues, and challenges. Rather than start your own consulting business from the ground up, it’s possible to start making money online faster on an established site like this. Your work with clients involves Q&A-style consulting calls.

After setting up your profile, you can also list your hourly rate. Remember that Clarity.fm takes about 15% of every consulting call fee so be sure to charge accordingly with this in mind. Also, be sure to provide the best advice possible so clients see the value of returning for follow-up calls and further advice. You can also use the marketplace as a networking platform to expand your professional circle.

Lead Generation

Although affiliate marketing fits into the lead generation category, the online lead collection also involves other opportunities. Companies desperately want to find those audience members that fit their profile of someone who would buy their product or service. You can help them by supplying leads, which include information about those ideal prospects that companies could then convert into a customer.

Leads tend to be a lucrative way to make money online.  The going rate can be from $5 – $50 per lead.  If you can deliver quality leads in high numbers, then you can get a higher going rate. Imagine being able to achieve this across multiple companies. The money will add up — and quickly.

Freelance Writing

Companies need high-quality content in large amounts for their blogs, landing pages, websites, and social media accounts. They also hire freelance writers for other projects like thought leadership articles, white papers, technical manuals, help desk articles, scripts, and speeches. Companies find that it helps to have different “voices” and styles to their content as well, so having a team of freelance writers provides a way to diversify that content.

If you enjoy writing, you can find numerous online freelance websites that list gigs and projects with all types of companies. You may want to select a niche and specialize in that area like an industry or business segment. It does help to know how to write different types of writing like a blog post versus a social media post.

Many freelance writing projects pay by the word, but others may also prefer to do an hourly rate. On the lowest end of the pay, rates that come in under ten cents a word. However, seasoned writers can make more than $1 per word on some assignments.

Hourly rates often vary from minimum wage up to $100 per hour, depending on your experience and the company’s budget. Look for clients that value your talent versus try to get you to do a massive amount of content for a cheap rate. Also, understand that you have to work up to the higher rates as you gain experience.

Look at sites like Guru, Indeed, Pangian, and more to find freelancing gig jobs. Also, companies and agencies are starting to hire more freelance writers than bring on full-time traditional employees to do this work.

Sponsored Blog Posts

Writing a sponsored blog post offers a way for companies to get information about themselves in front of a targeted audience. There are many ways you can get paid to create this type of lucrative content. You can simply post an article written by your sponsor on your blog or write one for them based on information that the sponsor submits. Additionally, sponsored content includes reviews and links added to existing blog posts.

To win this type of online work, you will need to have a blog that already is getting significant traffic and engagement. If you don’t, you may want to stick with affiliate marketing for the time being until you grow your blog following.

If you do have that traffic, then your rate should reflect on the level of influence you offer, including your domain authority. Your rate should also take into account what the sponsor wants and how much work is involved in creating it. An example may be that you can make anywhere between $50 and $200 per sponsored post.
Just remember that there are some issues with sponsored posts to consider before jumping in. Google does not like paid links and will penalize any blog that it sees as offering this by moving their ranking much farther down. Also, the FTC now requires that you acknowledge if you have been compensated in any way (payment or product) for a company mentioned in your posts.
You will need to balance these sponsored posts because your audience may not necessarily like the idea that many posts are sponsored. They will feel like they are being sold to, and that’s not why they come to your blog. Focus on introducing why you are sharing these companies in relation to the value they add for the audience.

Paid Webinars

With most in-person events canceled and a move to remote work and education, there is an even greater opportunity to make money online with paid webinars. You can make money online by hosting a webinar that focuses on your own expertise, includes a panel of experts, introduces online course information, or that offers a product demonstration.

To make sure you get the most out of the effort of hosting a paid webinar, take the time to find the best webinar platform that helps you sell tickets and deliver a quality online event. Promote your webinar everywhere your audience will be to maximize revenue. Finally, put together the most engaging quality content that leaves the audience feeling like they got their money’s worth.

When it comes to doing a product demo webinar, these tend to be free to watch with the hope that you can make money on the back-end by selling the product you demonstrated. The same goes with the webinar designed to introduce an online course.

YouTube Videos

If you have ever been on YouTube, then you know how it’s easy to get sucked into watching one video after another, especially if you are looking for some helpful advice on how to repair or do something. More than ever, consumers and businesses are turning to YouTube for visual assistance, advice, and knowledge. There are many ways to make money online through YouTube advertising. However, this gig focuses on making videos on your own YouTube channel. You don’t need many tools or a great investment to create your how-to videos before you start seeing a return.

The more viewers and subscribers you have, the more money you can make. Your profitability is also based on your niche and the level of demand for what you offer. The greater your value in terms of how you can help others fix something, improve or learn a new school, or change how they do something, the better your how-to videos will do, and the more money you can make.

Answers For Expert Questions on JustAnswer

JustAnswer was created because the founder was looking for a solution to a problem he had and couldn’t get responses in a timely fashion. It led to the idea to create a site where experts could check-in and answer people’s questions in their spare time. The site seeks experts like doctors, veterinarians, home repair professionals, mechanics, and lawyers to provide timely advice.

For those of you that have expert knowledge, this can be a sweet gig. All you do is answer questions and get paid to help those in need. You can talk, text, or chat as well as view or send documents and photos that might help solve the person’s problem. The fee ranges from $5 to $90, and you can see the fee the user is paying before answering the question. A positive rating from each person yields a commission from the fee of up to 50% of the total fee. Payouts come through PayPal.

Besides the aforementioned expertise, you can also help if you have teaching experience, or you can help with appraisals, pets, and more. There are numerous subcategories, making it accessible to a diverse range of experienced individuals.

Online Community Developments

If you have an online community, you have a captive audience that is interested in similar things and also looking to buy from someone they trust.

There are many ways that you can monetize these relationships:

  1. Arrange events and sell tickets and sponsorships.
  2. Sell community-branded merchandise like t-shirts, hats, and related items. Making some items limited edition helps you sell more at a premium price.
  3. Offer custom forums within your community that comes with a membership.
  4. Write a community ebook about how to create and manage an online community.
  5. Sell space in your online community so members can post ads.
  6. Create and manage job boards within your community and charge a fee to post and view jobs.
  7. Partner with other brands and companies to access your community for a fee.

Photo Sales

If you love taking pictures, then photography can double as a hobby and online money source. Beyond written content, companies want to add unique visuals to their blog posts, articles, landing pages, and more. Gone are the days of using canned stock photography because these are not engaging to audiences. Instead, viewers enjoy authentic and meaningful visuals that can only be captured by individual photographers with an artistic eye.

Numerous photo sites are ready to pay up to $100 per photo and sometimes more, depending upon the site and image that’s most in demand. Some of these sites include 500px Prime, Shutterstock, iStockPhoto, and SmugMug Pro.

You may already have a good camera, but you may need more types of accessories to create truly magical pictures. Also, it would be helpful to invest in photo editing software to create some more dramatic, edgier shots that really stick out. Look on the photo stock sites to see what’s selling the most and see if you can serve this market. You’ll be able to get more money by selecting those subject areas that are hot.

Copywriting

Previously, freelance writing was listed as a fast-growing way to make money online. Now, you get to copywriting on our list and wonder how it’s any different than freelance writing. Often, the terms are used interchangeably. However, there are some slight differences. Either way, these are good money-making gigs if you have a talent for writing and a mastery of grammar, tone, and voice.

Being a freelance writer means you don’t necessarily work for one company. It’s an independent contractor relationship. Therefore, you can freelance write just about anything — ads, social posts, marketing content, and copy. A freelancer can be a ghostwriter, which means they write content that is then published with someone else’s name on it.

Therefore, copywriting is a type of freelance writing. This type of writing typically involves writing product descriptions or any content that doesn’t have an author’s name attached to it. Other examples would be website content, bios, white papers, etc. Like other types of online writing, you can find these jobs through online freelance marketplaces. Rates are similar to those mentioned above under freelance writing.

Language Instruction

Knowing other languages can really pay off today as more people are interested in expanding their own capabilities. You can join sites like Verbling and iTalki where you can make between $10 and $30 per hour helping others learn languages.

One of the largest opportunities, however, is to teach English to foreign students through online English school sites. These online schools hire people from all over the world with a good command of the English language for between $18 and $23 per hour. Most of the students tend to be in Asian countries, so you will need to accommodate some time difference to do this type of online work.

Wealthy Investor Property Resource

Real Estate

To do well at helping wealthy investors as a resource for the property they may want, you’ll need to be well-connected within the real estate and property environments. This means having contacts in your network that represents real estate developers, commercial and residential property owners, real estate syndicate, and builders. Otherwise, a wealthy property owner could just go to a real estate agent.

Your job is to uncover what’s not listed in the MLS and what offers the potential to make your client more money. You can follow leads through real estate crowdfunding sites to see what developments are up-in-coming as well as explore other property plans with companies and startup developers around the world, doing the legwork and research for your clients. Then, you can present the information and help negotiate the deals, if necessary. You can charge by the hour or ask for a commission-based arrangement.

Gigs on Fiverr

I have been able to consistently sell my services for $150-$300 a month on Fiverr for years as have numerous colleagues. It’s been an ideal way to make money on the side while building up my startups. At first glance, you might dismiss this site because of gigs listed for $5 or that seem under your normal freelance rate.

However, you need to dig deeper to discover there are many fast, well-paying gigs available. Investing in these gigs will help you move up the ranks of their tiered system to access the top-paying jobs listed on their site. It’s the Pro marketplace that really starts to bring in greater potential for making money online.

The major difference between using Fiverr and another freelance marketplace is how you work with clients.  Instead of putting out pitches for new jobs, you put out what you can do on Fiverr and wait for connections to come to you. This makes it a good extra source of income because you can continue to work on other revenue streams until you connect with a client on Fiverr. You also don’t have to spend time negotiating rates and terms because you already have listed all that information on your profile.

Payment For Becoming Healthier

Sites like AchieveMint get you paid for walking, tracking your food, or taking health surveys. It’s a quick and easy way to make a few extra bucks for working out and being healthy. And, that’s just one platform that is ready to dole out some cash to see you change your lifestyle for the better. That’s a double win for you!

Here are more:

1. Pact: Make a pact to become fit or healthy, stick to it, and get paid.

2. Fit Crown: This app pays you to exercise through a series of challenges where you can win big or lose money if you don’t get through the challenges.

3. We Fitter: This app pays you to walk or run, helping you improve your fitness level. It works with fitness apps, like RunKeeper, Google Fit, and MapMyFitness.

4. Achievement: You can choose from different activities to get paid for each one, including logging calories, working out, weighing yourself, and even sleeping!

5. HealthyWage: This is a competition-style app that can yield a sizable amount of money. However, you are wagering against yourself so you will have to put some money in the pot first.

6. DietBet: Similar to Pact, FitCrown, and HealthyWage, this app puts you into a weight loss challenge where you can take home some cash if you hit your goals.

Web Development Business

Nowadays, it seems like every company — from startups and freelancers to local businesses to global enterprises — has a website. It’s where customers and prospects go to learn more about a company they might want to buy from or visit in person. Therefore, it’s important that websites make a great impression or the visitor will see the ugly, static, and slow-loading website as a sign of the type of experience they will have with you.

Not having the skills themselves, companies turn to web developers for help. That’s where you come in if you have the technical skills and design sensibility to generate beautiful, intuitive websites that visitors love to use and return to. The average developer costs businesses $12,800 per month. The average overseas developer makes $4,800 per month plus there are companies that pay referral commissions of up to 20%, recurring for life.

You can find jobs through freelance sites like Bark as well as recruiters, agencies, and your own networking ability. Be sure to have a website that shows off your portfolio if you have already created websites, mobile sites, blog sites, online stores, and landing pages.

Bank and Loan Servicer

Make Money with Kiva

Lend your money on platforms like Ratesetter, Prosper, Lending Club, Kiva, etc. Kiva has been one of my top platforms. I’m not making a killing, but I am helping people all around the world to build up their businesses.

As noted above, you can do this through a P2P platform or company. More people are turning to these types of loans because they offer less paperwork, a faster decision process, and good rates. As the lender, you get a percentage of the fees and interest for putting your money up, which can be more lucrative than just putting it in a savings account where it gathers more dust than interest.

There are some considerations before diving in to make sure it’s right for you. There is the risk that you will lose money, and the investment is not FDIC-insured. Your money may be tied up for two to five years. Overall, though, it is a good way to make money online worth trying with a small investment to test the profitability waters.

Translator and Interpreter

While Google Translator will do in a pinch, it doesn’t replace the need for human beings to interpret and translate the content of someone who speaks a different language than the audience that wants to know what they said. There are many ways to do this, including finding and working with companies and clients that require this service.

You can also sign onto an agency where you can get access to work without having to do all the marketing to get it. Other options to monetize your translation skills include doing translating as an online course or through an online school.

Online Video Editor

Video content is in-demand over other types of content. However, for companies to make video content that is engaging, they could use the help of professionals who know how to edit and produce attractive videos. That’s where you come in as an online video editor.

Not only can you do something you love, but you can enjoy it and make good money. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, video editors can make an average of $86,830 per year. A starting wage is about $31,940 per year while an experienced video editor can make up to $170,040 per year. On an hourly basis, that is a range of  $15.36 to $81.75 per hour.

Working online, numerous freelance job websites like Upwork and Fiverr offer simple video editing gigs for $20 to $45 per hour while more complex video editing jobs can be found online for $45 to over $100 per hour. You can also find video editing work on sites like Simply Hired, LinkedIn, Mandy, Stage 32, and ProductionHUB.

Reviews

Feedback plays an important role in helping companies gain awareness and credibility. Plus, reviews offer a way to show companies what they could also do better. There are sites that pay you for your opinion on products, services, and brand experiences. Get started by creating accounts on sites like Software Judge, FameBit, CrowdTap, Influence Central, and Modern Mom.

Beyond that, there are many other platforms where you can give reviews and test products to make money online. For example, Swagbucks pays you to answer online surveys that cover your opinion about brands, products, and services. You can also sign up to test products and provide your opinion, which also enables you to make money online. You can also check out Inbox Dollars, SponsoredReviews.com, User Testing, and Software Judge for more opportunities to test products and shape what comes to market.

Dropshipping

Rapidly gaining in popularity for its ability to make incredible money with little or no effort, dropshipping may be the only strategy you need to create the income of your dreams. This type of online money maker lets you sell almost any type of product, using a proven business model even accepted by the likes of retail giants, such as Amazon. Oberlo is an easy place to get started.

Even better is the fact that you don’t have to store physical inventory somewhere and then pack and ship it when someone orders. Plus, you don’t even have to dole out capital to get started. You might be thinking, wow, what’s the catch? This sounds too good to be true, but it’s not!

To get started, you select a wholesaler or a distributor who offers drop shipping capability. Then, you focus on marketing the products from that manufacturer. You’ll need to build a website with shopping cart functionality. You can generate your customer base by using social media, email marketing, and a blog to reach your intended audience. This funnels them to your website where they can buy from you. The orders go to your drop shipper and they send out the products.

While there is a fee involved for shipping it out plus the wholesale price of the item, you make the profit off what’s left from what the customer pays. The money to be made comes in the volume of sales you can generate. That’s why it’s so important to find a niche with as little competition as possible but growing demand.

Before picking a drop-ship partner, do your research and see what others have to say about the drop shipping company you are interested in. You want to develop a long-term relationship with a credible dropship company that can yield mutual success.

    Amazon Reseller

Despite the fact that there are now thousands of retailers on Amazon, it’s still possible to make money online through this channel. You may just need to spend more time upfront determining the product, price, and branding strategy to help you stand out in this crowded, yet ever-popular marketplace. Much of what you need to do is ensure that every sale is an excellent experience so you can also improve your reseller ranking and move up the chain to get in front of more target customers.

Look for a low-competition product to focus on that has a potential audience. You can do this by searching Amazon and learning more about who is selling what. Doing so will not only give you a chance to make more sales without getting into a price war, but you can also move up the ranks of rated resellers much more quickly.

Alternatively, you can try to break into a highly competitive product market but offer a lower price. The best way to conduct this type of research is to search the ASIN (Amazon Search Identification Number). This database shows you how many sellers are on that specific ASIN so you know how much competition you face with that particular product focus.

From there, if you focus on quality products, use Amazon’s fulfillment process, and deliver exceptional customer service, then you can do well as a top Amazon reseller.

    Data Entry

Data entry has been a long-time go-to side job for people to make some extra monthly income. These used to be done as temporary positions within a company. Now, the online world has changed the potential for data entry and made it more convenient as a work-from-home opportunity. This is an ideal job because you don’t need to go through a lot of training.

All you need to do this job is a keyboard, scanner, or another device that allows you to input or upload information. To make money, you’ll need to be able to learn to type quickly because payment is usually based on your words per minute (WPM) rate.

The best place to find data entry jobs is through freelance job sites like Upwork. On these sites, you can find projects from companies that outsource these jobs. There are still temporary agencies that now offer these same office jobs as digital and virtual assignments. Also, consider job sites like Monster and Indeed for data input, data entry specialists, and data entry operator gigs.

In terms of salary, the U.S. Department of Labor reports that the hourly wage for data entry is between nearly $16 and $22, based on experience and the industry you work for. Be sure to stick to reputable job marketplaces and agencies because there tend to be many scams associated with this type of job. Do your research on the companies where you apply to make sure they are legitimate.

Freelance Proofreader or Editor for Businesses

Many writers like to diversify their work by doing freelance proofreading or editing. But, you can also carve out an online income just by focusing on proofreading or editing. Proofreaders can make between $25 and $45 per hour while editors can command up to $100 per hour.

As a proofreader, your job is to check all types of documents (articles, website content, presentations, blog posts, ads, manuscripts and scripts, and more) for typos, misspellings, inconsistencies, and simple grammar mistakes. In contrast, a freelance editor tends to do a much deeper dive into making changes to content that can involve changing the flow, reorganizing chapters, deleting and revising paragraphs, and more.

For writers that are looking for something different, this can be an ideal change of pace from writing something from scratch. Helping others improve their writing can be a satisfying experience that provides the same freedom and flexibility as other freelancing gigs.

Look for these types of online money-making gigs on sites like FlexJobs, Indeed, Upwork, and LinkedIn. Many publishing houses and agencies regularly post for these jobs on sites like Monster.

    Typist for Cash

There are four primary ways that you can make money online by putting your typing skills to work. Many of these ways are also discussed on this list. First, data entry is by far the largest opportunity when it comes to serving as a typist for cash. While data entry tends to be plentiful and easy to find as well as requires the least amount of experience, it also pays the least of the typing jobs listed in this section.

The second way to make money through typing is through transcription services. This type of typing involves listening to spoken audio recording and typing what is said. This can vary across many forms of audio recordings, including  dictation, conference calls, interviews, speeches, podcasts, webinars, and more. You can excel at this job if you also have a deeper understanding of certain specialized areas. For example, there are legal transcriptions, financial/corporate transcriptions, and technical transcriptions.

The third typing job to make money online is medical transcription, which pays well to reflect the specialized skill involved. Unlike other types of typing jobs, this one requires post-secondary training and certification, such as a one-year certificate program or a two-year associate’s degree. The job involves transcribing a physician or medical practitioner’s dictation, which is then included in a patient’s medical record.

The fourth kind of typing job is captioning. Different than transcription work, you don’t use recorded audio. Instead, you are typing in real time to caption live videos. You will need to be fast, accurate, and use specialized stenography equipment to be successful at this typing job.

There is also the opportunity to type captions for recorded video, which is referred to as offline captioning. With this typing job, recorded video audio is transcribed and then captions are added during the video post-production process. While you don’t have to type as quickly as the online captioning, accuracy and experience are still key for this well-paying typing gig.

Online Personal Trainer or Fitness Coach

First, you can launch your own online fitness studio business. You can offer this online studio through YouTube or other available channels that allow you to broadcast your fitness services. As part of this online studio, you can publish training plans with workouts for the viewer to follow.
Plus, you can expand your revenue opportunities by including various specialized courses, nutritional advice, and access to one-on-one live online training through video conferencing technology. Revenue options include charging by the course, offering a monthly subscription, or creating a combination of both.
Second, you can sell your fitness programs, which you can do in conjunction with building your online fitness brand through your online studio. One strategy for achieving this is through developing an app. Then, your clients can access your online fitness studio anywhere, including their television by casting your studio to their screen or through their mobile devices. Either way, they can take your online training anywhere, which could incentivize more people to join your online fitness studio.
Another revenue stream for your online fitness studio involves selling downloadable workout plans and fitness programs. You can create a series of downloadable PDF plans that include workout routines with specific instructions. Additionally, you can add tiers to your program with these PDF plans also containing meal plans and more. Makes these easy to follow as well as provide access to you if they need help. This is a way to nurture these clients and even turn them into long-term online fitness studio fanatics.
Finally, leveraging your growing online fitness studio brand, you can become an affiliate for fitness and healthy lifestyle products. There are significant opportunities, including apparel, exercise equipment and personal training aids, food and drinks, supplements, fitness trackers and watches, and more.
For every sale you make, you can enjoy a percentage of the profits. Research companies that offer affiliate programs and then sign-up. You can also go directly to a site like Amazon Associates, create an account, and start working with any fitness brands looking for an affiliate.

    Online Private Tutor

With more schools moving to virtual classroom settings — from elementary school through college — there is tremendous opportunity to make money online as an online private tutor. If you excel in one or more subject matters, this type of job can be satisfying to your soul and your bank account.

Often, students need help with everything from a homework assignment, specific concept in math, or an essay or report. You may need to teach them and show them examples or you can offer advice on how to make improvements or where to get additional resources.

To get started immediately, you can join an existing online tutoring company. For these roles, you will have to show your qualifications, such as a college degree, teaching credential, or some type of certification. Depending on your education level, subject matter, and grade level you are helping, you can make between $12 and $30 per hour. You can find these company tutoring jobs through sites like Tutor.com, TutorMe, VIPKid, Tutor.com, Brainfuse, Revolution Prep, and TutorHub.

Alternatively, you can create your own online tutoring business, which may earn you a larger amount of money. Depending on how much time you put into it and much you grow your client base, you can start making between $1,000 and $5,000 a month. If you can assist with college entrance test prep, you can earn even more.

However, you’ll have to market yourself to find clients. There are a number of ways to start building your own client base for online tutoring. You should create a website and social media profiles that help potential clients find you. It’s also a place where you can add a payment option and even a built-in scheduling/appointment feature.

Be sure to also select your niche and target those students that need help with that subject area. That could be math, science, English, writing, or test prep like for the SAT or ACT. Once you have that, you can shape your marketing efforts around that niche.

Also, try reaching out to local and online schools to offer yourself as a resource that they can share with their students. Also, consider online local social media groups where you’ll be able to find parents in search of a reliable tutor. It doesn’t hurt to also ask those that know you to put up reviews that validate your capabilities as an online tutor.

    Blogging for Money

Blogging has been one of the most consistent ways to make money online. Over time and despite the growth in bloggers, this online job opportunity still offers a good revenue stream. Now is the time to take that blog you started and do more with it by monetizing it in many different ways.

The first approach to making money online with a blog is to add ads to your site. These include cost per click or pay per click ads are banners that you can place in your content or as a sidebar. Each time a reader clicks on the ad, you get paid for that click. You can also do cost per impressions, which pay you a fixed amount based on how many people view the ad on your blog.

A good place to get started with this blog revenue booster is through Google AdSense, which we also list among the 100 online money-making gigs. They make it easy to get started and select the relevant ads on your behalf. Also, check out other ad programs for your blog from companies like Infolinks and Media.net.

If you don’t ant to work with an advertising network, then another option is to sell ads yourself. While there is a bit more work involved, it does cut out the middleman that often takes a cut of the profits. This type of advertising includes buttons, banners, or links as well as sponsored blog posts, which has also been discussed on our list.

Next up is adding affiliate links to your blog content. For more detailed information on this option, you can check out our affiliate marketing description on this list. Just by adding a link to a blog post, you can earn a commission if the reader clicks on that link and buys the product or service associated with that link.

Your blog can also play host to a marketplace of digital products. These products might include online courses, workshops, eBooks, apps, plugins, images, video, and/or music. Make sure that you select digital products that would appeal to your readers. You don’t want to lose blog readership by selling products they could care less about.

Next, view your blog as a content marketing tool designed to drive visitors to your business website. Instead of selling other people’s digital products and services, you could be selling your own and pocketing all the money instead of just a commission.

Another option would be to sell website memberships where your blog becomes the stepping stone to exclusive content and valuable information. The most important thing you need to do here is make sure you publish an ongoing stream of quality and relevant content for your readers and members. Try offering a range of written and visual content.

Blogging on Medium’s Partner Program – Sell Your Content

Medium is considered to be one of the easiest blogging platforms available. Since 2012, it has been giving publishers and bloggers another platform to share their content across a diverse range of topics. Subject matter specialties include technology, entrepreneurship, politics, culture, and more.

The platform makes money from charging a monthly fee to access unlimited content. While a reader can read up to five articles a month for free, anything beyond that costs a small monthly fee. More importantly, let’s see how you can make money on Medium.

Over the last couple of years, Medium has continued to evolve its payment system and how writers can make money. The latest payment model introduced at the end of 2019 makes it more feasible for new writers to monetize their content.

Previously, the number of claps an article on Medium received dictated how much an author was paid. Now, the payment amount is based on reading time. Don’t stop considering the claps though because these are still a good way to extend reach, readership, and engagement.

First, you create articles or blog-style posts. Readers become members and access the articles you publish on Medium. These readers enjoy your articles and you get paid for their engagement. Medium does also factor non-member reading time into the payment for your articles but only if those readers become members within 30 days of reading those articles as a non-member.

Other changes to the Medium payment system include daily updates to your earnings and more metrics used to assess earnings. Doing so helps the writer who is new to Medium by leveling the playing field to a certain degree.

It’s also possible to earn a bonus for what you publish on Medium. This is another way that the platform has decided to encourage high-quality content. For now, though, this is only offered to a few stories each week.

Those I know that writing for Medium have reported making at least $100 a month but others have made up to $8,000 a month. That’s a wide range of income possibility for you to start exploiting for something that only takes minutes to sign up for and is free to join. Even better is that Medium allows you to syndicate your content by publishing your existing content there.

Although it takes time to develop a following on Medium, it’s a good way to start earning some passive income from content you’ve created as well as a good source of traffic for your own blog.

    Niche Websites

If you’re an expert, then it’s time to get started on making money online through teaching people what you know. You can launch a blog and then use it as a platform to teach others. Think of this blog as your niche website where you differentiate yourself by sharing what you know that others don’t.

Creating and managing a niche website can help you pocket an extra few thousand of dollars per month. The money can grow as you add options for passive income, such as Amazon Associate earnings (which we previously mentioned). Then, there is also Google AdSense and other affiliate marketing strategies.

While there is a good amount of work to do on the front end of this online revenue generator, it gets easier over time to enjoy a steady stream of cash.

The overall premise to how to make money with this online strategy is to find a niche you know and that you can exploit to differentiate yourself. This niche is a very specific area or segment of expertise. Once you do, you will need to start ranking in the search engines for keywords associated with your niche. The traffic you generate can be converted into affiliate revenue or income tied to your own product or service offerings.

Next, research niche ideas and keywords as well as develop a specific solution for an identified pain point with a targeted audience. From there, you’ll need to design an online presence that stands out in the crowd.

Then, select a good domain name as well as get a website developed and hosted. Other work involves developing a detailed strategy for your content, monetization, link building, social media, and further marketing efforts.

A successful niche website accomplishes many things. It helps readers find answers and solutions. The site also offers deep and unique expertise across a high volume of available quality content. Don’t forget that it helps to develop a brand image for your niche website as though it were a company, including a logo and brand values.

Decide what monetization strategy works for you. It might be selling information, products, or services. Alternatively, if you don’t have a business already that offers those things, you might want to focus on affiliate revenue.

Since affiliate revenue tends to be a short-term strategy, you will also need to think about what you could do in the long term to ensure a sustainable way to make money online. You can build additional niche websites based on your expanding expertise as well as get more traffic and revenue from your existing site and customer base. To do so requires more research, content, and marketing. However, the result could be that you double or triple your monthly revenue from this online gig.

    eBook Sales and E-Book Business

Thanks to online retailers like Amazon and its self-publishing program, it’s never been easier to sell your digital book online. Writing and publishing eBooks through your own eBook business is an excellent passive income stream. Once you put the effort into writing high-quality content, it can be sold over and over again as part of an eBook.

eBooks are quite simply books that are published online. They can be read on devices like Kindle or Nook as well as on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. You can get published quickly through an on-demand publishing service and platforms like Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and others. Many of these platforms even help you market your eBooks.

Like other opportunities on this list, it’s important to start your efforts by selecting a niche you know well and that’s in demand. Selecting a niche helps establish your authority and credibility on a subject while also differentiating yourself in a crowded eBook marketplace. It can work in conjunction with your efforts to build your personal or company brand should you want to take advantage of other make-money-online strategies listed in this guide.

Also, consider how your niche might be an opportunity to write more than one eBook. If anything, a series of well-written eBooks could propel your brand and revenue stream even further. Or, your niche might be something that could be expanded into similar niches for further opportunities. You don’t want to make your niche too narrow to start with that it’s not possible to expand and add more areas of expertise.

To be successful with your eBook, it’s important to focus on content and formatting, creating a readable structure that engages the reader and maximizes their investment in your eBook. Your content should focus on a pain point or problem your targeted reader has and how you can help solve that for them. If you don’t already have a sense of what those issues are, then you will want to spend considerable time doing research.

For you to make money online, though, sometimes you have to spend money online. This is the case when it comes to eBooks. This involves paying for cover art, editing and proofreading, formatting and graphic design, and marketing. However, these small investments can pay off with an ongoing stream of revenue.

Know your options on where you can get your eBooks in front of your audience. This includes self-publishing on Kindle, Nook, and Amazon, including the retailer’s partnership with Audible. Other places to consider include iBooks, Smashwords, Kobo, and Scribd.

Rather than just leaving it up to these companies that do help with publishing and awareness, you’ll also need to do your own marketing. This is where some of the other strategies in our guide come together to create a trifecta of revenue. You can create and monetize your blog, build your social media following, and offer some type of giveaway or incentive.

    Business Coach

Our expertise can be put to use in other ways too, including working as an online business coach. Besides making money online with this type of role, you can also do some good by helping others make positive changes in their lives. In this way, it can become a fulfilling and satisfying way to earn a side hustle. Maybe you do so well that you make business coaching your career.

Much of what a business coach involves is a focus on job skills and career direction and advice. However, you will need to go beyond just industry expertise to do well at coaching. It’s important to be able to show people how to reveal barriers and limits they are setting for themselves as well as help them change their mindsets. It is also important to be good at reading people and understanding what they are really asking for from you as a business coach.

And, if you have been giving away all your advice for free, now is the time to stop, create a coaching business, and monetize that experience. Develop a process for how you will offer business coaching. For example, determine the length and scope of each session, how you will teach it, and how you will focus on leading clients toward their intended outcomes.

You will also have to consider your current schedule and other obligations so you know how many sessions you can take on per week as a video conference session. Be sure to have a cost in mind and establish upfront payments. Have a fixed payment in mind or package pricing model. Having a website with a way to checkout and pay for those sessions can also create a good experience for your clients. On an hourly basis, you can make between $20 and $150 per hour as a business coach.

    Domain Name Agent

In the last decade, Internet real estate has become serious business. If you know what you are doing, then buying and selling domain names can yield a sizable profit. Some domain names have gone for more than a million dollars while most are sold for hundreds of dollars.

While it may take some time to make money online with this type of job, it can provide a significant return. However, you may have to outlay money to get started, including building up a portfolio of digital real estate in the form of many high-quality domains. It may take months or more than a year, so be patient with this pursuit.

Like physical real estate, these domains take time to grow in value. While flipping domain names is possible like flipping homes, you may get more out of it the longer you hold onto the Internet real estate. There are many types of domain names that can make you money, including generic names that describe some type of product or service. Then, there are geographic names related to cities or countries, business names, and relevant names related to an event.

There are many different ways to make money online by buying and selling domain names. Many domain registrars like GoDaddy do auctions while other sites broker sales like a real estate agent would do. Sedo is a good example of that. Another way to sell domain names is through parking domains that have a sale page so potential buyers can contact the owner and start negotiating how to buy it.

While there is money to be made in domain names, there are also risks similar to physical real estate. It can take time to find a buyer so your money could be tied up in those domain names for a while. The domain names may also lose value rather than gain in value. There may also be trademark issues and other legal risks.

It’s important to do your due diligence, including significant research and thoughtful planning. Doing so can deliver a unique way to diversify your revenue.

    Shopify Store

Another way to make money online is to create and manage a Shopify store. Shopify is a popular globally-available e-commerce platform that helps all kinds of businesses get up and running with selling their products online. Think of it as selling ready-made virtual shops where you simply add your name and brand. You will be able to promote your e-commerce business on numerous channels, including mobile and web, online marketplaces, social media, and pop-up shops and brick-and-mortar locations.
While you do have to pay to create and manage your Shopify store, you should be able to turn a profit that makes it a worthwhile investment. They do offer a 14-day free trial that gives you some time to take it for a spin and discover what you can do.
There are different paid plans, which may also better align your needs with your budget:
    • The Lite Plan comes with a “Buy”  button as well as the ability to sell on Facebook and accept credit card payments. Just note that it doesn’t provide you with a real online store with a shopping cart.
    • The Basic Shopify Plan features a website, blog, shopping cart functionality, unlimited products, and fraud analysis tools.
    • The Shopify Plan includes everything from the basic and adds features like gift cards, reporting, abandoned cart recovery, and unlimited storage.
    • The Advanced Shopify Plan includes all the features from the previous plans on this list and then adds third-party calculated shipping rates and an advanced report builder.
    • Shopify Plus is made for large companies and adds features like marketing, design, and 200 TB of storage.
Check the Shopify site to see the current monthly fees for each plan and cost per transaction.
If you are still not sure if this option is for you, consider the many ways you can use your store to generate sales:
    • Use your online store to sell your thrift store finds or treasures that fill your home.
    • Offer your freelance services through the Shopify storefront.
    • Promote an online course or consulting/coaching business.
    • Sell your hobby items, including art and graphic design, jewelry, crafts, photography, clothing, and more.
    • Develop your dropshipping business.

    Used Items

Whether it is your own stuff that is just collecting dust or items you want to turn a profit on from thrift stores and garage sales, you can make a tidy sum through used items. While it is possible to make money online, this type of online money stream does take time and patience. Here are some of the best online sites to sell your “treasures.”

eBay has to be one of the most well-known sites where you can offload everything from books, collectibles, and cars to clothing, art, and furniture. There are multiple categories as well as sales options, including an auction and “Buy It Now” formats. Do your homework in terms of what things are selling for, be descriptive with your content, and offer numerous visuals to attract attention. eBay also offers a trending list so you can see what’s in demand and try to pick up those types of items during your thrift store/garage sale trips.

Another go-to online marketplace for used stuff has been Craigslist. It’s free to list items so that others in your local area can come to see those items and potentially buy them. However, numerous apps have appeared in recent years that have become immensely popular for quick sales, including OfferUp and LetGo. The apps are easy to use and take only minutes to get items listed. These are primarily for local pickups versus shipping like what happens with much of eBay’s sales.

Social selling is another option through Facebook Marketplace. It’s also viewed as an online and local sales process so plan on having to meet up to deliver items to your buyers. 5Miles is another app for selling things locally.

Other online sites work well for specific niches that you may want to focus on. For example, Poshmark focuses on offering gently used designer clothing and accessories as well as some branded home goods items. It’s designed as a peer-to-peer marketplace so you are selling to your fellow community members. ThredUp is another example that focuses on reselling clothing, accessories, and shoes. On the tech side, DeCluttr is perfect for getting rid of all your older generation tech equipment, including smartphones, tablets, and more. They will also accept video games, CDs, DVDs, and more.

To maximize your sales potential, be sure to use a good camera to take shots that highlight and enhance the attractive value of each item. Be detailed with your sale description, including any sizes or measurements that buyers may need to know to help them decide. Be transparent about your items, such as minor flaws or wear and tear.

    Graphic Design Expertise Through 99Designs

As one of many sites that offers ways for freelance graphic designers to make money online, 99Designs.com is unique because the site only focuses on this skill. 99Designs.com is designated as a global community where graphic designers can work with clients in two ways. A client can work with you directly to collaborate and complete a project. Or, a client can create a contest and open the brief to the entire design community who then submit their own ideas and a client selects one and pays that designer.

There is a wide range of design opportunities that await you. The site now has more than 90 different design categories featured, including logos, marketing collateral, wine labels and more.

Although most of the website is directed at companies that could become your clients, you can find how to join it as your scroll to the bottom of the site and discover the ‘Become A Designer’ link. There is a simple sign-up process that allows you to start browsing for jobs right away.

99Designs.com gets the full payment for the design from the client before the project begins. If it’s a contest and you win, you get paid out immediately. The best part of this site is the visibility you can create for yourself as a graphic designer. Many graphic designers have noted that they have received more direct freelance work from clients on the site or even joined the company as an employee.

Be aware that 99Designs.com does charge fees. However, you can still make significant money online through this site. It’s well worth joining it along with the other freelance sites so you can diversify and increase your gig potential.

    Graphic Designer for Local Companies

Beyond sites like 99Designs.com, you can also make money online as a graphic designer working for local companies. Many types of companies, especially small businesses, may not be able to have in-house graphic design specialists. They look for local skilled designers who can take on projects on an in-demand basis. This work might involve marketing materials, branding and logo campaign, labels, product packaging, etc.

You can find graphic design projects through Behance, Fiverr, Guru, iFreelance, UpWork, FlexJobs, Indeed, and more job marketplaces. Beyond these online job sources, local companies can find you on networking sites like LinkedIn and Alignable. Even sites like Craigslist offer job listings, but these may be less qualified than job or networking sites.

Create a website and social media profiles where you can showcase your graphic design work and talent. Don’t forget to include social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram that are focused on highly visual posts. Doing so also helps build credibility when you pitch local companies for graphic design work.

    Old Electronics

It’s hard to imagine that anyone doesn’t have electronics collecting dust around their home. Some of us have more than others. However, you can remove some of your “stuff” while also making some money online. While you can try to sell electronics directly on sites like Craigslist or through social media groups, it can be more convenient to turn to websites devoted to paying for and selling used electronics.

    • BuyBackWorld buys many types of electronic devices for cash. This includes smartphones, cell phones, tablets, laptops, game consoles, cameras, iPods, and wearables like Apple watches. They accept electronic devices with many different operating systems like Android and Apple. Devices can be new, used, and even broken. When you submit information about the electronics you want to sell, they will give you an offer. If you accept it, then they will give a shipping label. Once they receive your items, they can pay you by check or PayPal.
    • SellCell does not purchase used devices. Instead, they offer you a way to compare many  buyback sites so you can get the most money for your electronics. The site gives you information about cell phones, desktop and laptop computers, wearables, digital readers, devices like GoPros, and gaming consoles.
    • Gazelle is like BuyBackWorld in terms of what it accepts as well as the buyback and payment process. If you accept  their offer, they send you a trackable shipping label, and pay you by check or PayPal after they receive your used electronics. Gazelle also has placed kiosk in many areas. They only accept phones, tablets, and MP3 players at these physical locations and deliver an immediate payment.
    • Decluttr was previously mentioned on our list of how to make money online underselling your old stuff. As we noted, it’s a site that pays fairly well for electronics as well as things like CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays. They also accept items like LEGOs and books. They make it easy to see what you can get by using their app to take pictures of each item’s barcode. They will let you know within minutes what they pay. If you take their offer, you can print a free shipping label or take it to a UPS store where they will still cover the shipping costs for you.  After they receive your item, they will pay you through PayPal, direct deposit, or check.

Beyond these sites, you can also sell used electronics on a local basis. For example, Best Buy offers a trade-in program. You can find these through their websites. You can also search online for EcoATMs where you can sell your used and broken electronics and components.

Before selling any used electronics, be sure to backup the data on those devices, encrypt the data, and then wipe the device, disable the factory reset protection, and perform a factory reset first.

    Music Lessons

If you are a music teacher, offering in-person instruction through private lessons, through a music shop, or at a school, then you most likely already enjoy a satisfying career surrounded by music. However, with the recent pandemic and the move to more virtual environments, you can take that career and leverage it to make money online.

One pathway to making money online with music lessons is to create and sell video courses on sites like Skillshare and Udemy. These sites involve in-depth instructions on how to format and develop your lessons. In return for the time invested, you can make a few hundred dollars. Plan for this to be one of many tactics you should take to make money online.

Another tactic is to create a website if you don’t have one already. Here, you can add videos and a blog to share your expertise and document your experience. You can also think about selling your own courses through your website versus a third party.

Next, start a YouTube channel, which is one of the most popular go-to sites for watching videos and learning skills. Here, you can post videos that illustrate how to play an instrument and share tips on practicing and improving your musical ability.

During the recent pandemic when the school moved to virtual lessons, many kids and adults learned to navigate video conferencing platforms like Zoom, GoToMeeting, and Skype. Doing so can save you the time and money of traveling to students’ homes. Instead, you’ll be able to supplement your income by doing the lesson live over video conferencing. You and each student can work together and you can provide the same level of instruction as you would if you were in the same room.

If you have the ability to create sheet music or other instructional materials for music lessons, you could also offer these resources through your website or freelance websites.

    Uber or Lyft Driver

You may be very familiar with Uber or Lyft because these driving services have become the go-to standard for getting around town whether it’s your hometown or you are traveling. Although some people have been concerned during the pandemic about taking an Uber or Lyft, drivers have taken many precautions to help reduce the risk of a potential virus spread.

For many years, Uber and Lyft have made the list of the best gig jobs. People already have the equipment (their vehicle). It involves joining the platform and using an app to get alerts about driving gigs in the local area. After accepting and completing each drive, payment is made into a designated account. As reviews come in, a driver’s rating goes up and so does access to premium gigs.

Although some swear by it, many other drivers claim there isn’t much money in this type of gig job compared to the wear and tear on the vehicle. However, there are many strategies to increase the money you can make as an Uber or Lyft driver. Here are some ideas to get the most out of what continues to be a well-used service around the U.S.

    Sign-up for a referral program.

Freebird is one example of a referral program that can help you make more money by driving with Uber or Lyft. All you need to do is promote Freebird’s app to your riders and you can get up to $5 for each referral. You can also consider referring Rakuten, which can net you up to $25 per referral.

    Recruit drivers.

You can also recruit people to drive for either service through a referral code you receive when you start working with Uber or Lyft. Plus, if you recruit people to work for Uber Eats, Postmates, and Door Dash, you can also make money for those drives and deliver platform apps.

Be strategic with leveraging the gig as a business.

Even if you take this gig on as a part-time opportunity, you can still be savvy about how you track income and expenses. Make sure you cover all possible tax deductions available, including writing off the wear and tear on your vehicle. Use a mileage app to track how many miles you drive to include on your taxes.

You can also market yourself to others to build up your clientele and credibility as a professional driver. For example, you can write blog posts and make YouTube videos. Network with your riders and build a rapport. Providing friendly service can go a long way to getting more positive reviews that attract more riders.

Take on the driving jobs when others don’t.

Although you know it’s busy on a Friday night or throughout the weekend, that’s when all the other drivers are out there, too. The unpopular times can net you more money, including those early morning airport runs or mid-day drives. Being available to drive on holidays and special event days can also yield you more money.

    Life Coach

While we’ve talked about business coaches within this guide. However, that way to make money online is geared toward those that have a good understanding and experience with running a business. However, there are other coaching roles to consider like serving as a life coach.

Those that do best at being life coaches are those individuals who love helping others reach their fullest potential. The role includes teaching, mentoring, and assessing. In return, you see that you’ve made a difference plus you’ve made some money doing it.

Life coaches help others uncover their fulfillment by creating their dream career, cultivating personal and professional relationships, addressing mental barriers, or enhancing health and wellness. Those life coaches that do best are those that find a niche area, such as career planning, relationships, wellness, etc. To conduct these sessions, you can meet in person or do phone or video sessions.

There isn’t much you have to do to become a life coach. You don’t have to get a certification or a license. You can take a life coach training program and then immediately get to work as a life coach. Make sure you define your motivation, purpose, and niche. Also, work with existing life coaches to better understand how you can create your own program, run sessions, and price your services.

You need to know who you want to help before getting started. Also, take the time to research and collect information that can help this target client. Learning about self-help techniques, personal development concepts, and wellness should be ongoing to make sure you always provide the most value.

It may take time to establish credibility and a client base. As with most businesses, a website is a critical tool where you can share content about what you can do for clients. Include a blog to start developing your thought leadership position. Also, identify other blogs where you might guest blogs, such as a fitness instructor or entrepreneur.

Let everyone within your network and social circles know what you are doing, including friends, colleagues, and family members. They may be able to recommend potential clients to you as well as share your information on their social networks. Make sure to have your own social media profiles to also market your life coach services.

Other options include hosting a webinar or workshop as well as participating in speaking opportunities at conferences and other events. You’ll be able to showcase your knowledge to potential clients and build credibility.

    Creative Arts on Etsy

Etsy has been around for many years and proven to be a popular site to purchase all types of creative products, including jewelry, fashion, art, graphic design items, and more. It often appears on lists of side hustles.

However, in the last six months, the site has gained more attention from the millions currently out of work that need to make money and have considerable time on their hands to revisit their hobbies and creative and crafty skills. Besides helping to make money, many Etsy shop owners have reported that working with their hands and making things others want has alleviated some of the stress and tension they previously faced.

Unlike traditional online e-commerce sites where you fill your virtual shops with products and forget about it until someone places an order, Etsy does require significant attention and management. Especially now that the site is growing in popularity in terms of the number of shops, you’ll need to spend considerable time on SEO to ensure your potential customers can find you in this crowded marketplace. This involves doing keyword research and shaping your content around keywords that reflect your product offering. Etsy does well in terms of providing you with SEO assistance through their resource center.

You’ll also need to spend time studying the competition, experimenting with pricing and sales, building out a more themed store, and being active in the Etsy community of like-minded store owners. Each listing may need ongoing refinement, including tags and titles, visuals, and helpful and engaging content..

Over the years, Etsy has expanded its product categories beyond just crafts and handmade goods. You can also sell vintage items, plants, beauty products, decorations, candles, poster art, and repurposed items.

Now, the most important information you probably want at this point is revenue potential and fees. Etsy charges you fees, including a listing fee, subscription fee, and transaction fee. The subscription fee only involves those who want to upgrade to Etsy Plus, which adds features like more shop customization features, perks, and discounts all of which increase your visibility. Whether you opt for the free store or you upgrade, numerous Etsy shop owners report that they enjoy a steady stream of sales as they become established.

Unlike some e-commerce stores, an Esty shop is simple to set up for the e-commerce novice. You can create a store name and logo, create product listings and descriptions, add photos, and start promoting your shop across social media. It takes time, effort, and patience, but an Etsy shop, paired with other gigs on this list, can go a long way toward greater income.

Art Monetization on Society6 and Printful

While you can sell your art on sites like Etsy and eBay, you may want to elevate your artistic talent and monetization for your fine art, photography, and related artistic work to a platform designed for that niche. Two such platforms are Society6 and Printful. For example, Society6 offers a wide range of artistic categories, including furniture and home décor, wall art and prints, apparel, tech, and more.

Neither of these sites are intended to deliver you a way to get rich quick. However, over time, you can make money and establish your brand awareness in the fine art and graphics community. Like every gig on this list, when you invest more effort into what you create, you can inspire your intended target audience and influence their purchase decision. It does take time on these sites to build awareness and a following who is willing to buy, so be prepared for the revenue to build across the months of promotion.

It can be a fairly simple process once you have a presence on these sites, with most of the work done by the platform on your behalf. These sites seem to care about artists and are genuinely interested in helping them get the attention they deserve. And, when you think how difficult the art world can be to break out and get noticed, it’s nice to know that these platforms are working to help you get that attention.

Both sites also have communities where you can network and increase your following. You can get sales through referrals from other artists, directed traffic from your social media promotion, and from each website’s traffic that they funnel through their own promotional strategies.

On Society6, you don’t have to pay a monthly fee or commission. Instead, Society6 pays you 10% of the products you sell. On art prints, canvas prints, and framed prints, you can make more by establishing a customized markup on each of these art products. As an example, this formula is used for the markup items:
    Base Price x (Markup %  x (1 − Discount %))  = Artist share
Printful works a little differently. They define themselves as a print-on-demand drop shipping company that works with a wide range of marketplaces and e-commerce platforms. These include Shopify, eBay, and BigCommerce just to name a few. You can launch your own store on Printful and then integrate it with one of these platforms and marketplaces so you don’t have to handle the order fulfillment and shipping.

After creating your store on Printful, the company charges you a fixed amount for printing and product distribution. Here are the two ways to calculate what you could make:

Gross profit = Revenue – Cost of Goods Sold

Net profit = Total Revenue – Total Expenses

With Printful, you see how much each product and its printing costs, so you can use these formulas to adjust and set your retail profit to make a certain profit point for each item.

However, there are other things to consider besides just enjoying the freedom, flexibility, and pricing control over your artwork. Extra costs to take into account include a domain name, website hosting, and e-commerce platform integration. You’ll also need to assess how much your time is worth in terms of using it for marketing and art creation.

Either option gives you another way to monetize your art, build a following, and leverage your artistic talent in new ways.

    Travel Coach

We’ve talked about business coaches and life coaches so far on our list of how to make money online. Now, we’re going to talk about an opportunity that has been around a while but that has recently regained attention and interest. And, that’s serving as a travel coach.
It sounds pretty intriguing, and it is, especially if you love to travel. A travel coach works with clients on how to achieve their life and work goals through the process of traveling.  This type of coaching comes in many forms. One day, you might be designing what your clients’ trips will look like while other sessions might be about how to align a client’s goals with locations and trip types.

Some skeptics might refer to a travel coach as a glorified travel agent. However, for every skeptic, there are dozens of people who have tried working with a travel coach and value their guidance. That’s because travel has become more about meaning and purpose. For example, some people are interested in incorporating learning or social assistance like volunteer work so much so that experiential travel has become a “thing.”

As a travel coach, you can help other people find those places in the world where they can reflect, reset, and discover their purpose. Some travel coaches focus on career development travel experiences while others are more about life goals.

Clients most often are interested in this concept and travel assistance because they are in the midst of a life pivot related to moving jobs, wanting to change careers, ending a relationship, or retiring. Even corporations may be interested in travel coaches to help their employees with sabbatical plans.

This is an exciting side hustle because no two clients will be the same. Some may want short trips while others seek retreats or exotic locales. It can be fulfilling to know that you are helping others find direction and purpose in their lives. Plus, it can provide some side income as you build up your credibility with potential clients over time.

It helps to have a coaching certificate and some type of experience in the travel industry. For example, anyone that has served as a travel agent can look at leveraging that expertise and expand into travel coaching. When pursuing clients, this type of background can help convert prospects. It’s good to create a website, social media profiles, and a profile on networking sites to reach out to corporate prospects as well as entrepreneurs and consumers.

    Audio Book Narrator

Audiobooks have continued to be a popular way to learn on the go. You can listen to an audiobook on a commute, during exercise, and just around the house. Many people use their smartphones to enjoy these audiobooks. The growth in sites like Audible and iTunes illustrate the market potential. While some audiobooks like to use celebrities, there are just as many — if not, more — audiobooks that use non-celebrity voice talent.

Most often, this type of opportunity is available to voice-over talent, which will discuss more in the next section. To be able to narrate an audiobook, you will have to audition for these jobs like an actor would do. Often, it is people who have done acting or commercial work that find themselves drawn to narrating audiobooks. And, if you have listened to many audiobooks, then you know the best audiobooks involve animated narrators that breathe life into the words rather than delivering it in a monotone way. The work can involve fiction and non-fiction books.

While there is considerable competition, it’s still possible to break into this way to make money online. Study other audiobook narrations, practice with recording equipment, and focus on things like breath and voice modulation. You may also want to select a niche of audio book. Certain genres may be of more interest or have the most potential to get your foot into the audiobook narration “door.”

Be aware that narrating audiobooks can take considerable time due to the hours of editing and perhaps the need for you to come in and re-record certain lines. You’ll need to be flexible in your schedule to accommodate all the work involved. However, there is a significant amount of money available to make. You can get up to $200 per hour for your time or you may be paid in royalties.

To find audiobook narration gigs, you can use a freelance marketplace like Upwork or iFreelance. There are also job sites that focus on voice-over work where you can also find book audio narration jobs. You may also find recruiters and agencies that hire freelance voice-over artists.

To stand out, you should have a voice-over/narration portfolio to share. Posting this on your website and social media profiles can also help attract attention and develop credibility as a voice-over professional.

    Voice-over Work

Audiobook narration is just one of many opportunities to make money online through voice-over work. But, there are many more opportunities to consider to expand your income. Opportunities include everything from commercials, movie trailers, and television programs to instructional videos and more. Depending on your experience and type of voice-over work, you can make between $40 and $200 per hour. However, some jobs can net hundreds of dollars or even thousands like a nationwide commercial.

Those that excel in voice-over work tend to have a pleasant speaking voice or the ability to change their voice. Even the ability to do accents, speak in other languages, and offer a diverse style can increase your voice-over work opportunities. To do this job, you’ll need to invest in some equipment, including a microphone, headphones, and some recording software. Some voice-over professionals have built themselves an at-home studio with soundproof walls to do their work.

There are many sites where you can start applying for voice-over work. Sites to consider include Filmless, Fiverr, Snap Recordings, Upwork, and Voices.com. You can also try Voice123 and Voice Bunny for additional voice-over gig potential. Be prepared to start on the low side of the pay scale as you will have to audition and work your way up.

In the meantime, you can also network on sites like LinkedIn and create a website with some voice-over work to illustrate your range and skill set. These demos go a long way to attracting attention as a voice-over actor.

    Online Contests

While it may seem impossible to win money off an online contest, many people have managed to figure out a system that, with some time and effort, you can supplement your income with this way to make money online. Known as “compers,” those that make money through online contests have figured out some effective ways at optimizing their investment in searching out and entering online competitions.  While some claim to enter 100 online contests a week, it may be more reasonable to plan for 15-30 per week, depending on how much time you have to devote to it.

The best advice is to treat online contests as a job. Determine how much time you will devote to it each day. Set up a system to track your work and hours spent on it. You may want to create a separate email and have a SIM card to ensure that communications from the contests are separated. Most likely, you will receive numerous messages from the contest companies and their advertisers once you start entering these online contests. However, you can also opt-out of much of this spam.

Be prepared that this gig will not cover your mortgage, rent, or other bills. However, it will give you some extra cash, gift cards, or free merchandise. Also note that it might take between three to six months to start winning these contests.

Some ways to minimize how much time it takes to take these contests, you should use the auto-fill tool to fill in the contest forms quickly. You can use Google Chrome extensions like Linkclump and Split Tabs to facilitate using contest websites. Also, keep a record of which contests you’ve entered and where you’ve won.

Join a comping community to learn more about online contests from others who compete. Plus, those in the community can provide insights into new contests that hit the Internet. They can also alert you to the many spam competitions out there so you don’t waste your time on something that has no genuine prizes.

    Online Surveys

Many of the same sites that offer online contests also include other ways to make money online, including online surveys. Still, other companies only focus on online surveys, product testing, and focus groups. Like online contests, you’ll need to allot a certain amount of time and effort to identifying those gigs that offer the best return for that investment.

The good thing about this online revenue source is that it is easy, only requires an Internet connection, and doesn’t require any skill or specific educational background. Also, there are numerous places to quickly find surveys to take.

The challenging thing is that there is such a wide variance in pay that it takes time to sort out the good ones from the not-so-good ones. Try to avoid sites that use a points system because it’s confusing and will literally take forever to ever make a few bucks. Also, many surveys are looking for a specific demographic — not that they will tell you that upfront. Therefore, if the surveys don’t fit your demographic much of which you have to repeatedly share before a survey starts, then you can’t take it and you’ll have to keep looking for more surveys.

There are some decent survey websites and apps out there that are worth the effort.

    Swagbucks

This site has many surveys plus third-party surveys. Rewards include gift cards, sweepstakes, and PayPal payments.

    Survey Junkie

This site is a smaller survey aggregator, but it features an easy-to-use dashboard and a decent point value for the amount of time you spend, delivering cash payouts more often than other survey sites.

    InboxDollars

New users get a $5 bonus, which helps because it can take a while to earn enough to get a payout. Some surveys offered payouts of less than a dollar.

    Opinion Outpost

This is a simple, intuitive survey website with an easy-to-follow points system. It enables you to actually make a bit more money than others. Plus, you can spend what you make on Amazon.

    i-Say

This site only provides surveys through Ipsos, which is a market research firm.  Cash-out rewards start at 500 points, which gets you $5.

    OneOpinion

This survey site is another survey aggregator with a screening process intent on getting you connected with those surveys that fit your demographic profile so you don’t end up wasting your time. You can’t cash out your earnings until you hit $25 so it will take some time.

    MySurvey

This site delivers a steady stream of surveys to your inbox and a good qualification rate. Some of their rules are confusing, so take the time to study their requirements.

Overall, you will not get rich doing this nor will you cover your bills. However, like the online contests, you’ll have fun, provide input on products and services, and get some type of reward. Think of it like the arcade where you get tickets for playing games and those points add up to a few candies and a toy. You had fun doing it and received a little compensation for it.

Just be cautious about what personal data you share. Never share your Social Security Number (SSN) or similar sensitive information. Be sure to have anti-malware software, especially if you realize later you’ve just participated in a spammy third-party survey.

    Online T-Shirt Business

One of the main reasons to start an online t-shirt business is that there is strong demand. Statista reported that e-commerce sales totaled $504.6 billion in 2018 and will grow to $735 billion by 2023. Plus, apparel and accessories is a market set to grow to $138.7 billion by 2022.

Even with such a sizable opportunity, you’ll need to have a solid business plan due to the competition and new market entrants. You’ll need to identify a niche that you are interested in or passionate about and that could develop a following. That means you’ll need to also describe your target audience. Don’t try to be everything to everyone because you need this niche to create a brand and differentiate yourself.

Before jumping into the online t-shirt business, do your research. You’ll need to understand if there is any competition and what they are doing as well as the trends and approach to selling online t-shirts. Consider what this information can do to shape your t-shirt design, production, logistics, delivery, and marketing.

You’ll need to create an online store, such as on BigCommerce, Shopify, and Amazon. You’ll need to make a storefront that looks great, is easy to use, and offers an excellent experience for customers. This includes thinking about how you will handle currencies, payments, shipping, inventory, accounting, and more. Also, decide if you are creating the t-shirts or you are going the drop shipper route we talked about already on this list.

If you are going to create a t-shirt design, you’ll need to start with some ideas, beliefs, themes, and styles that can set you apart. Have a set of business goals for your online t-shirt business to define what you want to achieve from it in line with your design concept. This will become your brand in many ways.

Make decisions about the t-shirt types, how many types and designs you will offer, and the demographics you are selling to. You can create your own or you can outsource the production to other gig workers like you, including graphic designers and printmakers like those found on Printful.

Then, you need to determine how to market your t-shirts. You can ask others for reviews, do a giveaway, and engage with your audience on social media. On social media, also connect with social media influencers who can share what you offer with their audiences. Retargeting ads also work for this type of gig.

    Instagram Influencer

Your love of social media, combined with a large following on sites like Instagram, can be parlayed into a career as an influencer. And, if you already have a presence on YouTube or as a blogger, you can capitalize on this following by making money or getting free stuff for posting pictures.

What you make and how easily you break into Instagram influence marketing jobs depends on what category or niche you are in. It might be fashion or beauty, food, or fitness just to name a few. You’ll also get paid based on the number of engaged followers and the revenue options you take. There are a few avenues to take to make money as an Instagram influencer.

First, you can make sponsored posts where you post about a specific product, including holding the product or a video or picture of you using that products. To get access to this revenue stream, you’ll need to have an extensive following for brands to want to pay you for these Instagram posts. Average payments are $200 to $400. However, celebrities and influencers with a huge following can make thousands for each Instagram post or story.

You can find these gigs on influencer marketplaces like Fohr, Grapevine, indaHash, and Crowdtap. Each influencer marketplace has its own terms and requirements. Spend the time understanding how each one works and if you qualify. Also, look at what others influencers do in terms of integrating brands into their story or the type of hashtags to use, including Instagram’s paid partnership with tags.

Second, you can become an affiliate. To do this, you’ll need to become more vested in the process compared to the sponsorship posts. You’ll use a trackable link or unique promo code in your bio. With this tactic, you can only focus on one product at a time because of only being able to put a link in this one place. You can join these programs on sites like ClickBank, Amazon Associates, and RewardStyle.

Third, you can become the influencer who touts your own products, services, or digital content. You can open your own store and then leverage your following to sell things from your online store. While this may take time to think about the type of product or services you want to put your reputation on, it can lead to a steady stream of influencer income over time.

    Online News Writer or Columnist

If you have worked in print journalism, you know that it has become a struggle to keep a job writing for a newspaper or other print publication. However, your audience still wants the information that appeared in those publications. It’s just that they want to read it on their mobile devices or laptops. That means you can still make money but just on a different channel.

Becoming an online news writer, article writer, or columnist can net up to six figures a year once you develop a reputation, get a following, and continue to produce high-quality relevant content.

Start with a niche that you know well. Perhaps it is the same niche you were working in as part of print publications. Pick something you are passionate about, where you can create a voice, and where you might have access to resources and research. This niche could involve a few industries or some topics, focusing primarily on those that seem to be in demand.

From there, start checking out what publications have moved online, including trade publications. You can also check out those new online publications that fit your niche. Searches reveal all this intelligence, driving your strategy for who you will pitch and approach with your story ideas just like you did when you worked for a newspaper or magazine.

You can go to each site to learn about that publication’s editorial guidelines. Some editors may even assign you stories or topics as you develop relationships with them. You may need to send out queries and pitches for some time to get noticed. This is where a blog or portfolio can shorten the time frame for getting online news or article assignments.

You may also consider expanding into other writing formats, including personal essays, interviews, and stories. You may be able to go even farther by writing white papers, eBooks, and reports.

When it comes to how much you get paid, most online news jobs start at $1 per word and go up from there, based on the publications, your experience, the topic, and number of articles the publication wants you to write.

Online Coaching and Sell Your Advice

Whether you already have clients that you coach or you are thinking of leveraging your expertise on a subject or issue and breaking into coaching, now is the time to take this service online and make money. It’s an excellent gig to add to your other gigs or just do on the side from your traditional job.

You can make money through one-on-one coaching and group coaching through online mastermind sessions. You’ll be able to expand your potential client base to the entire globe. You can supplement this income with materials that your clients can purchase like downloadable ebooks or other subscription-based programs.

With online coaching, you can make anywhere from $15 per hour to hundreds of dollars per hour, eventually reaching six figures. This depends on how much time you put into online coaching as well as the client base you build. Different types of online coaches make different money, including finance coaches, life coaches, business coaches, travel coaches, and more.

Besides charging by the hour you can sell packaged programs or sessions that include some other content or takeaways that deflect from the idea of hourly charges. Clients want to know that they are getting value and actionable advice. You should think about the type of value-added services you could include based on your niche.

Once you have your specialty and idea of how to price your online coaching services, you’ll need to build your online presence if you don’t have it already. Create your website and social media profiles as well as a professional networking presence. Tie together existing content and links to thought leadership in your niche.

Make sure your niche is about a single area that sets you apart from others. This will help draw more clients that are specifically interested in your services versus trying to offer generic business or life coaching. Your online coaching platform should solve a specific problem. Use a webinar or online forum — even a YouTube channel — to share snippets of your wisdom to illustrate the value you can offer your potential clients. Try Facebook ads to target the right clientele and draw them to your online coaching service offering.

Be sure to make resources ahead of coaching sessions that can be reused across clientele, including worksheets, guides, videos, lesson plans, and resources to give out at each session.

As noted above, mastermind groups are another component of online coaching. This platform lets people interact, share their own suggestions, and direct discussions that you can oversee. You can offer this to clients as part of your overall package or as a separate package.

    Internet Researcher

With so much available information to use for content and other purposes, it’s critical that you take the time to get information that has some credibility and basis to its claims. Getting that information is easier when you can work with a capable researcher. If you love sifting through information online or have spent years writing articles, then you are an ideal candidate for making money online as an Internet researcher.
There are companies that will pay you to do to their research. They may like the time or people to take care of this online work. For example, companies like AskWonder seek out people in many states across the country to answer questions submitted by their clients. You will have to search online to find the answers and then use those resources to provide a detailed response. The company pays you out via PayPal.

    Pet Sitter or Dog Walker

Whether you use an app or you create your own business, you can make money online walking other people’s dogs as well as caring for pets when their owners go on vacation or work during the day. Let’s start with the opportunities available from an app like Rover, which offers a way to find gigs for dog walking, dog sitting, and dog boarding.

Joining this app immediately connects you with gigs in your area versus starting your own business. This means you can jump right in. However, for this convenience, you will lose a portion of the earnings because Rover.com takes a percentage of about 15% from each booking. You can select the jobs that pop up on the app that fit your schedule.

It’s easy to sign up and offers a way to create a profile and set yourself apart from others in your area. You can even list your preferred rates. From there, you can decide what to take after Rover does a background check and provides you with specific information, a shirt to wear, and a link to payment options. You don’t need to have experience with dog walking or sitting. All Rover wants to know is that you will provide a loving and safe environment for their customers’ pets.

If you do love animals, this can be a fun gig where you can make some decent supplemental income. It’s a good job that fits with a traditional job or freelance job schedule. Some dog walkers noted that they have added $1,000 per month just taking a few dogs out for walks throughout the month. Those that take on more gigs and boarding see their income climb to the thousands of dollars.

Alternatively, you can create your own dog walking or pet sitting business. For those of you who love animals, you can take care of dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, and more if you are interested and want to expand your clientele. Many people go on vacation or take a business trip but worry that their animals will be in good hands. You can give them peace of mind by taking care of the animals in your client’s homes or bringing them to yours. Some animals require more care than others so you will need to decide what services to offer.

College Admissions Essay Writer and Editor

Applying to college can be intimidating, especially when it comes to writing and submitting admissions essays. That’s where you come in as an expert writer looking for additional freelance opportunities. If you were an English major in college, you are a teacher, or you may be a freelancer that writes for a living, then this is a way to make some extra cash. Many academic writing companies can get you these jobs or you can advertise your own services online.

Let’s start with the academic writing services route. You’ll be able to join a service by submitting some writing samples and an application. Each writing service has its own terms and pay rates, so you may want to shop around or join a few. That’s because it may take time to establish yourself with the service and start getting the top assignments. There are often options to help the student write the admissions essay from scratch as a tutor, or you can serve as an editor and help improve their existing admissions essay. While you can access a steady stream of work, you typically get half of what the agency charges the client.

If you would like to strike out on your own and create your own admissions essay writing and editing service, it would be good to have some type of freelance writing business already established and create a new landing page that features this service. However, there’s nothing to say you can’t start from scratch, either.

Just be sure to create a website and social media presence to start publicizing your services for admissions essays. You can reach out to your own social circle, advertise on local social media groups, and even connect with local high school administrators to offer your services. It’s a good idea to do some samples for your portfolio so clients understand you know what you are doing.

    Contract Customer Service Representative

With the customer experience becoming a central component of more company strategies, many businesses are looking to hire more customer service agents and representatives to be available with friendly, knowledgeable voices on the phone. And, with more technology, it’s possible to offer these roles as remote positions.

This is a good way to make money online because there is a fairly low barrier to entering this career. Only minimal experience is needed — often less than a year — and no college degree. You don’t have to undertake any specialized training or get a certificate. And, even in the age of chatbots, there are considerable job openings. With that said, you can work part or full time, starting at just above the going rate for minimum wage. You can work as a traditional employee or as an independent contractor.

To do well as a customer service representative, you’ll need to have a quiet workplace, high-speed Internet, phone access, software, and a computer. In terms of soft skills, you should be good at multitasking, friendly, patient, helpful, and good at communication.

This can be a flexible job with different shifts and days, which allow you to do other freelance work on off times and create a more balanced lifestyle. However, when you are first starting out with a company, you may not get the ideal shifts. Be patient as it will take time to get priority.

During your shifts, you’ll face a wide range of tasks, including answering questions, solving problems, directing callers to more information, and sometimes handling angry or dissatisfied customers. That makes conflict resolution important. You will have to be a good listener, use a clear speaking voice, and be responsive.

All types of companies across multiple industries and business segments hire customer service representatives. This provides more variety and options. The best sites to look on for this type of work include Indeed and FlexJobs.

Social Media Manager – Manage Social Accounts for Local Businesses

Your ability to use and understand social media channels may set you up for another way to make money online: become a social media manager. Social media managers oversee social media accounts for all types of businesses, celebrities, and entrepreneurs. They use social media managers because they don’t have the skill and/or time to take care of the social media accounts themselves. Smaller companies or agencies tend to hire freelance social media managers on a contract basis to develop social media profiles, provide content, and respond to comments.

A social media manager’s pay scale average around $35 per hour and can net up to $60,000 a year for more experienced talent. You can also establish your own social media management business and set client rates based on a retainer or package. To do all this in an online job helps you have some experience with marketing, business, or communications. This is because you will be using tools and planning content for different platforms, audience types, and campaigns.

You’ll need to also know how to use analytics tools to track and report on social media performance. Other important skills might involve some graphic design and video editing to add other types of content to the social media accounts. It helps to know tools like Buzzsumo, Buffer, Hootsuite, CoSchedule, and more.

To stand out in the crowd of social media manager applicants, it may help to have a certification in that area as well as samples of your work from other campaigns or jobs. Decide how many social media platforms to become well-versed in and take the time to study. those as much as possible. This includes Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube, and others. Once you know those key sites inside and out, you’ll be in a better position to help your clients with their social media needs.

Look for jobs through sites like LinkedIn, Alignable, FlexJobs, and Indeed. Those in most need of help often are local businesses where you can begin to make a name for yourself by providing results-driven social media campaigns and programs.

    Unused gift cards

It turns out that many gift cards go unused everywhere most likely because the recipients forget they have them. If you discover some, it is possible to sell them online. However, most online platforms do take a commission. Sites to consider include Raise, Gift Card Granny, CardPool, and CardCash. Other sides are CardKangaroo and ClipKard. You can also turn to sites like eBay, Craigslist, LetGo, and Facebook groups, but you have to be careful when using these platforms to sell gift cards.

Many of these sites will pay cash or will allow you to trade with someone else. They work as marketplaces where other people can come and shop for gift cards. Be sure to visit each online gift card reseller to see which gift cards they accept and learn more about their terms and costs.

When selling your gift cards online to make some extra cash, remember that you can also sell partially used gift cards. It’s better to go with digital sales so you don’t have to pay for shipping. Also, trading gift cards helps you avoid those commissions. Also, the platforms, though they take a commission also protect the buyer and seller during these transactions.

    Stock Trading

While this is a bit more of a risky business, it’s a great way to make a few bucks, especially when interest rates on savings accounts are so low. The stock market has been a roller coaster ride more so than usual since the start of covid due to economic uncertainty. While you might experience some losses, you could also make some worthwhile gains. However, with research and a thoughtful investment strategy, you could do well in this way to make money online.

It’s important to watch market trends and understand the impact these have on companies. Use sites like Kiplinger, Investor’s Business Daily, and Bloomberg BusinessWeek, along with blogs from financial advisors and market experts, to better understand what’s going on. Also, conduct in-depth research on the companies you are interested in investing in beyond what investors say.

Also, do your homework when it comes to the trading websites you plan to use. Read up on sites like Fidelity, Scottrade, OptionsHouse, TD Ameritrade, and others to see what other investors have said online about their experiences using these trading websites. Also, read up on their fees, features, and value to see if it meets your expectations.

Once you choose one or more sites, you can open an account based on the minimum amount required. Be prudent about what you invest because you may not get it back, so don’t dump your life savings into this venture.

If you don’t have much to invest in, think about opting for apps that let you invest in partial share purchases like Stockpile. These may be more financially prudent but they help you make money over time while you learn more about trading stocks. Also, sites like ScottradeELITE and OptionsHouse have a virtual trading platform where you can take trading for a spin without using any real money.  Also, take the time to read up on the basics of investing and trading. You can put that to work with the virtual trading or trading app.

Take the time to also discuss trading with an accountant so they can tell you how your profits and losses will impact your taxes. If you do well and sell your stock, you don’t want to pay it all out in the form of capital gains!

    Online Agency

The idea of making money online is to work smarter, not harder. One of the ways to do this is to start an online, or digital, agency. While you start out as a company of one, offering your marketing, communications, PR, graphic design, developer, or content services, you then expand your team with other freelancers.

You could even add services for clients beyond your own skillset to add further value. Also, with there resources and talent that a team offers you, it’s possible to take on much larger projects.  Therefore, you can scale the projects and clients you serve with your online agency, thereby increasing your revenue stream far beyond what you could produce on your own.

Another way to use your online agency to add revenue streams is that you can partner with other agencies that can give you a referral fee for any new clients or projects you send their way. You can also get affiliate commissions through cross-product or cross-service promotions.

With today’s technology and the low-overhead costs involved with a digital business, it’s fairly straightforward to start your own online agency. Besides having the specific skills that define your agency, you also need to do well at time management, prioritization, account management, communication, and client and team relationships. It’s important to understand how to handle all aspects of business operations, including hiring, training, budgeting, and more as well as how to create a culture for your digital agency.

Define your online agency brand and what it represents, who it serves, and what makes you different. These are essential ingredients when it comes time to market your online agency across a website, networking sites, social media, and more. No one wants to hire a digital marketing agency that sucks at their own digital marketing campaigns so make sure what you do highlights your capabilities.

Before getting started, though, make sure you know what business model works and what niche or industries you plan on focusing your client acquisition. Determine if you want to charge clients on an hourly basis, a monthly retainer, or a project price. You can also work on a commission.

What you select is often based on what type of agency you operate, the industry, and client preference. You could opt for two or three payment models to encourage more clients to come on board than just giving them one way to work together.

Get financial advice before starting to determine if you should create an LLC or S-Corp. This way, you can understand the benefits and risks prior to launch. Find a good tax person to help you through this process.

Now, onto your target audience. It’s easy to just want to work with any business that you come across. But, it’s more effective to pick a few industries, adding team members that may represent related niches as you expand. This way, you can leverage the knowledge and expertise you have in certain areas, such as financial services or consumer-facing brands.

From there, you can diversify, such as investing, cryptocurrency, and mortgage banking for financial services. You’ll be able to gain a competitive advantage, differentiate yourself, and deliver more results because of your laser focus on specific areas.

    Online Workshop

Similar to the online courses we talked about on this list already, online workshops are similar in their delivery, packaging, and revenue potential. While workshops have always proved to be a good way to provide information and help your target audience, it typically only allows you to serve a local area unless more people are willing to travel to where you are hosting the event.

Now, when you take that workshop online, you can reach a global audience and present to an endless amount of people for each workshop compared to what a physical space would have allowed. More people may be interested in your online workshop because it’s more convenient and it’s on a channel where they may already enjoy participating.

Compared to an online course, a workshop is more self-contained and doesn’t take up as much viewer’s time. Your participants can get in and get what they need and go put it into action by the end of the workshop. And, with the recent pandemic, more people have been home, increasing your audience potential with more time on their hands who are also more accustomed to using platforms like Zoom.

Think about how you can create a workshop that incorporates your knowledge and skill set, particularly if you are already working and succeeding in a certain area, such as freelance writing. You’ll be able to re-sell that workshop over and over again for significant passive income. These workshop participants can also provide additional revenue if you provide them with eBooks or some other materials. Or, you could include these value-adds in your workshop to incentivize more people to sign-up.

Before you get started, do your research to see if the topic you’ve selected is relevant to your target audience. Find out if you have competition. Be sure to watch other online workshops to learn what works, what you need to include, and even what you shouldn’t do. Create your workshop and practice it multiple times. Record and watch your performance so you improve your delivery but also get to know the platform you are going to use. You don’t want audio or technical issues to impact your participants’ experience.

Focus on your promotion efforts, using your existing channels and network. Or, if you don’t have a website or profiles, you’ll need to put a lot of time and effort into that presence first to provide credibility. It’s good to have a landing page on your website so people can easily sign-up and pay for the workshop.

Once you have a workshop, there is still an opportunity to create more over time. You can also provide access to a recording to continue selling it for prolonged passive income. It’s also good to go back, revisit your recorded workshops, and add an update. Doing so may bring back some of your clients and keeps this way to make money online as a steady income source.

    Cash Back Shopping Deals

You can make money off of affiliate links for certain websites and apps that provide cash-back shopping deals. The apps are easy to download, often free, and require little effort. Sometimes it’s connected as a web browser extension. Other times you may need to just take a picture of your receipt or the bar codes of products.

We recommend signing up with sites like  Top CashbackQuidco.com, and Swagbucks. These are free and offer the best selection of retailers and exclusives.

Top Cashback has members all over the world that use this browser extension when shopping to earn money back. It includes thousands of online stores where you can earn cash back. Notifications alert you to new savings. It also shares coupons and deals and generates auto coupons. Quidco.com is a UK site that works in a similar way, offering deals and coupons, and offering cash back at thousands of UK online stores.

Swagbucks helps you save money by giving you access to things like coupons, promo codes, and sales. You can get cash back just by shopping and earning free gift cards through Swagbucks App. There are millions of registered users that she through the app with major retailers like Target, The Home Depot, and more. Beyond shopping, Swagbucks also lets you Arn money by sharing feedback on movies, TV shows, new products and services, and shopping experiences.

But, those sites are just the tip of the make money online iceberg through cashback apps. There are also sites like Rakuten, Ibotta, Drop, Shopkick, Fetch Rewards, Saving Star, and Checkout 51. Many of these offer similar benefits but feature different retailers, making it well worth signing up for a few.

    Commission-Only Sales Gig

Many gig-type jobs are commission only. That means there is no salary. It’s purely based on the sales you can bring to the company you work for. Talk about the need to hustle! However, before you decide it’s not for you, there are many benefits to this way of making money online.

Like every freelance gig, you can create your own schedule and enjoy a flexible work environment. As such, you’ll also be able to work independently rather than have someone like a boss micromanage your time.

Above many other jobs where you have to wait for a raise or ask for one, this job lets you control your income. It lies solely on you to close the deals that earn you a commission. You’ll have to work smarter and harder to get as many deals closed as possible. This can lead to the next benefit, which is more money than you’ve ever made. That’s because a commission-based job offers unlimited earnings potential.

Of course, it’s not the perfect gig, which is why you can consider doing it along with your other gigs. First, your income can fluctuate significantly from one month to another. This can impact how you have to approach your budget and may be a challenge when it comes to having to share income information to get a car loan or mortgage. Hence, the hustle needs to be set at high-speed.

    Book Purchase and Sales

I once had a guy stay at my house (via Airbnb), and he went around to all the local thrift stores to find books that were sold for nothing that he could sell online. He would go on eBay and sell them. I was astonished that he could buy a book for $.30 and turn around online and sell it for $30. He found one book for $.45 and sold it for over $5,000. It was rare.

Even if you’re a book nerd (it’s not a bad thing) you can use this to your advantage. Get to know what books are valuable and which are not. You can sell almost anything online. Don’t get obsessed with buying and holding. I’ve seen people get caught up in holding all the books for their love of them. This is more of a hobby, not a side gig to make money.

Learn the books’ true value and where you can sell them. Sites like BookScouter.com and eBay are good places to start. You can also look at the other used book stores on Amazon and see how they are pricing the same titles. BookScouter.com gives you a tool where you can type in each book’s ISBN and then find out how much the book is worth and which buyback company will give you the most money.

Besides thrift shops, look for books online on Craigslist and local Facebook groups. You can also go to yard sales and garage sales to get some pretty good deals.

    TikTok Influencer

TikTok has continued to gain in popularity as a social media platform of choice for sharing homemade viral-bound videos. The platform focuses on the ability to upload short videos and share them online. To become a TikTok influencer it’s as easy as developing the type of content people love, a large following who appreciate and share your content, and a little marketing.

TikTok has an algorithm that assesses the videos each person likes and the videos you’ve liked and then shares similar content with you. The platform measures the hours watched, likes, and shares for each video. As the user engagement with a video increases, then it is circulated to more people.

To make money as a TikTok influencer, you can monetize your popularity through ads and sponsorships. Although it’s possible, you’ll need a tone unique to stand out on a platform that is filled with content. Pick something different and find your niche. The more creative you can be, the better.

Know the audience that will be interested in this unique content by studying who likes what on TikTok. Also, determine if you have any competition. If you have any, study what they do so you can do it differently.

When you start creating content, be consistent with what you deliver. Be regular in how you share it. That way, you’ll be able to start building your following and leverage that to start monetizing what you do on TikTok. If you need more help in getting noticed, don’t forget to use hashtags so your future followers can follow you.

Get to know your followers and reply to their comments. Go live and stream your videos so you can get comments and talk with your followers. As you do, your influencer status will develop and thrive.

Continue to promote your videos through other platforms like your blog and social media profiles, including your Facebook and Instagram accounts. Also, don’t forget to upload your videos to your YouTube channel.

You can also make money as a brand endorser, using your status as a TikTok influencer to get brands and products in front of thousands and millions of people. You could make between $500 and $20,000 per video, depending on your level of influence and the type of brand.

    Marketing Advice and Case Studies

Case studies and general marketing advice can be another way to make money online if you have deep marketing, content writing, and research expertise. The help you provide can help companies market and operate ethically, authentically, and efficiently while you monetize your experience and skill set.

First, you can work as a marketing consultant, which is especially promising when it comes to assisting startups and small business owners that may not have their own marketing departments and just need some guidance and oversight in developing a strategy and guidelines to provide to freelancers. This can be a lucrative consulting role where you can charge a monthly retainer for high-level marketing advice.

Second, you can work in the role of creating a specialized type of marketing content that involves deep research, a niche understanding of industries and trends, and the ability to craft a compelling story about how your client was able to solve a specific problem for their customer. Companies like to use case studies and use cases because they’re an effective way to show value to prospects. However, they can be challenging to write so companies tend to pay well for this specialty marketing content.

Case studies vary in length from paragraphs to pages, but they tend to include the same elements and development process. You’ll need to be good at conducting interviews because you’ll be talking to the person who used your client’s product or service. You may need to add graphics like photos, tables, charts, or other elements. For the ability to produce these use cases or case studies, you may be paid anywhere from $100 to $3,000 for each one.

You can find these writing gigs on freelance job sites where projects are listed or you can explore the possibilities with your existing clientele. When you do get these gigs, you want to make sure you do a good job so you can continue to get more or use these in your portfolio to find additional projects.

    Websites and App Testing

If you love using apps and websites or you have worked with one or both in some capacity, you may be able to make money online by testing new websites and apps for companies. Usability testing is critical for everyone from startups to enterprises because they want to know how users feel about what they’ve created prior to launch to ensure they’ve done it right or make necessary changes. Having real people who represent the user market can provide enormous feedback to ensure a product is on the right track.

In return, you get to enjoy testing different apps and checking how well you can navigate and use websites. Plus, you will get paid. While it’s not a lot of money, it can definitely help you boost your monthly revenue.

To get started, you don’t need much equipment so there is a minimal investment involved. Must-haves include a device where you can test websites or apps as well as high-speed Internet. You may also need a microphone. Typically, these companies pay through services like PayPal so have that setup, too.

It’s also pretty easy to find these gigs because there are numerous sites that hire testers. Examples include User Testing, which pays you $10 for every 20-minute video assignment.  Other sites include Test Birds, which is a European testing site; TrymyUI, which pays $10 per test;  UserZoom, which pays out $5 to $10 per test; and 99Tests, which pays you to test software products and log bugs. A TryBox gives you up to $35 for each product you test and complete a telephone interview about. These are just a few as there are more than 20 that could be found with a quick search.

    Amazon’s Mechanical Turk Master

Amazon Mechanical Turk (also known as MTurk) is a marketplace for virtual tasks that require human intelligence. Businesses use the marketplace to gain access to diverse, on-demand, scalable workers while those registered on the site can find a wide range of tasks that they can sign up, complete, and get paid for. Referred to as HITs, these are Human Intelligent Tasks where a worker can take the task, submit an answer, and collect some type of reward for completing it.

You can get started by going to the Worker website where you can create an account and sign an agreement. The system uses Amazon Payments where you can link your bank account for easy money transfers. Or, you can choose to get paid in the form of an Amazon gift card. Once you join, you can get access to a list of HITs that you are qualified to accept. The process is easy to follow and allows you to keep taking HITs as long as you finish each one.

The HIT requesters determine whether to approve your work. When they do, you will receive a payment within 30 days. To make sure you complete each HIT correctly, take the time to read all of the instructions thoroughly and answer accurately. You are allowed to return HITs that you cannot complete correctly. This will not impact your rating. If the Requester really likes your work, it’s possible to get a bonus payment from them.

Eventually, you can become Aa Master Worker, which is considered to be a top Worker within the MTurk marketplace that has received what’s known as the Mechanical Turk Masters Qualification. This takes some time to get because it shows a high degree of consistent success over many types of HITs. It’s based on high-quality results, marketplace tenure, scores, and work completed.

    Existing Website Purchase and Expansion

If you have bought an existing website through an auction or other web service, it may have some existing content or just be a parked site. This is an opportunity to turn the URL into valuable Internet real estate. Depending on the URL’s topic, you have many ways that you can go to expand and monetize your site, including adding many of the things mentioned on this online money-making list.

Options include a monetized blog, affiliate marketing, and an e-commerce website. You could also turn it into a subscription website, a  platform for online courses, a job board, or a launching point for your own startup. Since you can view it as digital real estate, there is room to make money by selling ad space on it.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s relevant and focused on SEO so you can start to get traffic. Depending on what you do, you might also want to create social media profiles to help point traffic to your new website.

    Airbnb Host

Serving as an Airbnb Host has been one of the most long-standing gigs that make money online. The service for hiring rooms, casitas, and whole properties has continued to grow and thrive. Although COVID-19 slowed it down somewhat, the bookings have already restarted and show signs that people continue to like booking these “home away from home” properties for their weekend trips, road trips, family reunions, and long vacations.

How much money you can make varies from where you are located. An Airbnb in the sticks will make less than one located at the beach or in a popular tourist destination. If you are in a college town, you might do well with parents coming to visit their kids, for example. Find out what draws people to your area, and use that to attract people to your Airbnb listing. It’s possible to make a few hundred bucks a month up to thousands, depending on what you offer and where you are located.

Of course, you could list your own vacation rental on sites like Craigslist and make money. But, you take on more risk than using a service like Airbnb that does the marketing for you, provides insurance and assistance should anything go wrong, and generally has your back to make sure it’s a good experience for you and your customers. HomeAway and VRBO are two other similar options that mirror what Airbnb offers.

Be aware of the costs involved in terms of providing furniture and more, including sheets, towels, toiletries, and maybe even things like appliances, cookware, and some food and beverages. Over time, these items will need to be refreshed and replaced, which comes out of your profits. However, it’s those special touches that can also earn you more with good reviews and recommendations.

    Part-Time Remote Company Work

As you can see from this list, many of these gigs can be part of working remotely for a company while others are solo gigs. There are numerous ways to become a freelancer or independent contractor for a company that may be in the process of scaling but not quite there to hire full-time staff. This is where you come in and make some cash. Here are some of the part-time remote company work options worth considering if you already have the skills in place:

    • Account Management: This type of job involves overseeing client and account relationships for a company, including answering emails, calling clients, and providing them with information about products or services.
    • Accounting: If you have bookkeeping or accounting skills, you can work remotely for companies that require your financial and tax expertise.
    • Administrative: Working as a virtual assistant for a company, you can manage schedules, make appointments, and handle administrative tasks from home.
    • IT: Companies need tech support, so you can provide this assistance to help with networking, security, and remote access.
    • Customer Service: This type of remote job involves using phone, email, messaging apps, and social media to deliver service and support to customers who have questions or concerns.
    • Marketing: From social media to search marketing and everything in-between, companies need help with promoting their brands, products, and/or services.
    • Medical Billing/Coding: Physicians and hospitals often need help inputting data and coding it for patient files. It requires a lot of focus and accuracy.
    • Sales: This is another skill often sought by companies that are looking to add revenue without expanding their sales team to full-time members. And, in the digital age, it’s much easier to work from home to create and convert leads through online channels or via phone.
    • Project Management: Companies need project managers who can create and oversee project schedules, teams, and budgets. With so many tools available it’s easy to do this remotely.
    • Communications: As more companies recognize the need to develop a separate communication department for internal and/or external needs, a remote employee can provide these services, which may include newsletter development, portal management and updates, emails, and more.
    • Writing/Editing: Numerous departments within a company may benefit from your writing and editing services, from assisting with scripts, speeches, and presentations to writing and editing articles, reports, and white papers.

    Personal Vehicle Rental

I personally like Turo because it’s like the Airbnb of personal vehicle rental. You can list your car for free, upload photos, and mark when the vehicle is ready for rental.

However, you can also consider HyreCar, Getaround, and TravelCar all of which work as an online marketplace model. These help ensure that your vehicle stays safe and there is a neutral third party to negotiate any issues like damages.

This is an ideal way to make money if you don’t use your vehicle much or you have an extra vehicle like a classic car or luxury car that someone else would love to drive. Many people report that they make between $500-$1,000 per month doing this gig.  Certain vehicles offer more in earnings, including an SUV versus a compact car or a luxury vehicle versus a sedan vehicle.

Before you get started on signing up with any of these car rental services, please read all of the fine print and make sure you have a solid insurance plan.

    Twitch Channel

While many people are still focused on YouTube, Twitch has been quietly gaining ground with the younger set as another place to build a following and make money online. Twitch is a streaming platform that gamers prefer. There are a number of ways to make money thanks to Twitch users, affiliates, and partners.

Becoming a Twitch affiliate is one of the best ways to make money followed by becoming a Twitch partner. You can join other affiliate programs or you can become part of the Twitch Affiliate Program. Many Twitch streamers join an affiliate network that sells products that gamers will be interested in, such as Amazon, which owns Twitch.

If you are gaining ground and a following on Twitch, you can make and sell your own merchandise. You can also ask your followers for donations to help create more entertainment for them on Twitch. Again, if you have a following, then you can also attract the attention of brands that will become sponsors and pay you money for the rights to advertise their brand on your Twitch.

If you want to join the Twitch Affiliate Program, you must stream for at least eight hours in the last 30 days, stream on at least seven days in the last 30 days, receive an average of three viewers per stream, and grow your audience to at least 50 followers. Then, you can make money with Twitch Bits, which are small donations from viewers. Twitch Subscriptions provide a way to make recurring income because your followers subscribe to your channel for a monthly fee.

The Twitch Partner program is the best for streamers and influencers on Twitch. You’ll have to be invited to this level of money-making opportunity. It could be based on your content, viewership, and/or streaming frequency and schedule. To make money, Twitch Partners can run ads on your stream. Twitch pays you a flat-rate CPM, which is approximately $1 to $2 per thousand views.

    Online Focus Groups

    Camera Gear Rental

You can easily rent your camera gear with KitSplit. This site lets you rent out all your camera equipment, lens sets and kits, and camera accessories. Doing so can recoup the cost of gear you may not use very often. The platform is designed to help you make money while protecting your camera gear.

Typically, there are no amateurs on the site. Instead, it is a community of pros that just want to borrow some decent equipment versus outlay all their money upfront for something they don’t use often. Many KitSplit members are looking for video and camera equipment for films, TV shows, and social media.

The company uses a 40+ point risk assessment before agreeing to lend out your equipment. Renters are also insured and this is verified by KitSplit. Another good thing about using this site to make money online is that you can get paid instantly in your bank account.

    Clothing Rental or Sales Websites

There’s no better way to clear out your closet than to rent or sell your clothing and accessories online plus you’ll make some decent money in the process.

Let’s start with the potential to sell your clothing and accessories. There are many online consignment shops, including thredUP, Poshmark, and Snobswap. Some offer ways to sell your designer duds while others take more mainstream brands.
Other places to sell your clothing, bags, belts, shoes, and more are eBay, VarageSale, Craigslist, LetGo, and OfferUp. Social media groups and accounts also provide a platform to sell your clothing and accessories.

To get the most, be sure to use high-quality photos, write detailed product descriptions, and set a realistic price. Make sure to list the brand, size, and color.

Now, onto sites where you can rent out your clothing and accessories. Similarly, you can put items up for rent with sites like Style Lend, Rent Not Buy, and Rent My Wardrobe. Research each site to see what they focus on and understand their policies and procedures.

    Online Notary Business

Becoming a notary is a state-by-state process that can offer a good way to make extra money, especially when more people are working remotely and there are strong periods of mortgage and refinance activity that fuels much of the notary business.

You do need to get some training but it can be well worth it given that it tends to just involve courses and not college. After training, the next step is to pass a state-administered exam. Then, you get fingerprinting and a background check as well as a commission certificate from the state where you plan on operating as a notary. These steps may cost you about $200 and take about eight weeks to complete, but you will make that back quickly as you get your first notary jobs.

Rather than just a side hustle, you may have to spend more time on this type of online job. Think of it more like starting your own business. You can make upwards of $100 per file, which can net an average of $2,200 a month on a part-time basis. If you decide to do it full-time, then you can clearly make even more.

You will need to travel to your clients to notarize the documents so your expenses may involve gas and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Growing your business means starting to network online and offline to find companies where you can offer your notary services. It will take time to build up a clientele, but you can also accelerate it by creating a website and social media presence. Be sure to sign on to local networking groups like Alignable as well as join your local Chamber of Commerce.

Also, join directories like Signingagent.com. Look to create partnerships with those that need documents notarized like banks, mortgage companies, escrow and title companies, lawyers, insurance agencies, and more. You can expand your notary business in some states by officiating marriages, becoming a field inspector, and certified signing agent.

    Garage Rental

While you know about Airbnb and renting a room, home, or apartment out, and you know you can rent your car out, you can also rent out your garage. For those of you that have a garage, you might wonder who would be interested in renting it. Well, there are many reasons.

For example, they may live somewhere that only offers street parking but no secure, covered parking. Or, a person might want the space for storage or as a shop space. Maybe they want to work on their classic car.

To make your garage into an online money maker, you need to make sure it’s in good condition with a concrete floor, good walls, and a roof that keeps out the elements. If you live in a more severe climate, it would also be good to offer some type of climate control like air conditioning or heating. Access to electricity and maybe even water could also make your garage more likely to be in demand. Throw in bathroom access and those looking to borrow it as a workshop will be signing up.

Finally, it may be better if your garage is detached from your home. You may not want the risk of potential access to your home let alone the potential noise or fumes. If you have a separate garage or outbuildings, this is ideal.

Before you put your garage up for rent, make sure it’s legal to do in your area, including the activities that renters may want to do like paint their vehicles or use heavy machinery. Then, get your garage ready like polishing the floors, painting, adding a better or more secure garage door, and fixing anything that’s broken.

You can rent the garage by the month or week, depending on what you are marketing it as for those interested. Prices can go from $125 per month for a single-car size up to $350 for a two-car garage. Larger buildings might be even more. You’ll need to determine how utilities may go up and work that into the price to make sure you get the most profit.

Get your garage listed on sites like SpareFoot, GaragePointer, or Neighbor. Like other sharing economy marketplaces, these help you navigate the process and provide assistance should any issues arise. You can opt to rent the garage yourself but there are more risks involved.

    Cryptocurrency Trading

Each of these ways to make money online with cryptocurrency involve a lot of research and study before jumping in. This way of making money comes with significant risks and is much more complex than most things on our list. However, there is a lot of money to be made, too. We could write a huge guide just on this topic because there is so much to know. That’s why it’s so important to take the time to study the options first.

    Mystery Shopper

A fun way to make money online is to become a mystery shopper. There are so many companies available that you can join that get you out there, shopping and making money. This includes sites in the U.S. like Bestmark, Secret Shopper, Pinnacle, Quest For Best, and Intellishop. Going online and searching the term, “mystery shopper,” will open up a long list of potential sites to join. Be careful as some sites may be for the UK and require you to shop at UK stores.

Companies want to use mystery shoppers because it helps them ensure that their employees are doing everything they have been asked to do to create an exceptional customer experience. Mystery shoppers can look at the service they receive, food quality, retail display, and many other factors all without the employees realizing what’s happening.

Most assignments require that you read through what you need to focus on before doing the shop. The information will also explain how much you will get reimbursed and how much you will get paid for the shop and follow-up report. Once you submit your report, then it may take a week or up to a month to get paid. Since you get reimbursed for the food and clothing or whatever else you have to buy to do the experience, you are getting free stuff plus a fee for your time and opinion.

You can select how many mystery shops you want to do rather than being obligated to fulfill a certain amount of mystery shops. This means you can do it on your time and when you have openings in your gig schedule. It’s okay to take your kids with you on these mystery ventures and even preferred when it involves kid products.

Expert at Tax Prep – Sell Your Skills

While tax season is not a year-round job, you can put your tax prep skills to work to make money online throughout the year. This gig is definitely for someone already skilled in this area. If you know how to do bookkeeping as well as financial and tax reporting, then this side gig is for you.

To expand your revenue, you can take on tasks for companies, business owners, and entrepreneurs like bookkeeping services. Then, you can consider offering other services like payroll, financial planning, and tax planning. Thanks to today’s technology, there are many software packages that make it easy to add more clients and get these tasks done accurately and efficiently. To go even further, you could add to your expertise by offering real estate brokering, benefits planning, and insurance.

    Recreational Vehicle Rental

Like the other aspects of the sharing economy (homes, vehicles, and garages), you can also make money by renting out your RV, which may often sit unused for weeks or months at a time. Instead of it collecting dust, you could be collecting cash for that trailer, fifth wheel, RV, or toy hauler.

On average, you can make a minimum of $100 per night and potentially thousands of dollars per year, which can pay off your RV loan and start earning you money for the investment. While there is the fact that someone else will be putting miles on it and adding to the wear and tear, it is still more profitable than having it sit in your driveway or paying for a storage facility to keep it.

Of course, what you earn also depends on the type of RV. Class A is between $175 and $275 a night while Class B and C are around $100 to $200 per night. A fifth wheel, travel trailer, and pop-up camper can vary from $50 to $150 per night. Those RVs with more gadgets and features also can earn a higher per night rental rate.

Depending on where you live also plays a role in how much money you can make. In a state like California or Florida, you could potentially rent out your RV the entire year-round. Other locations may have off-seasons that may reduce your revenue-making opportunities. Rates can go higher during peak season and then be lowered for off-peak to still attract some renters.

Like the other aspects of the sharing economy, online marketplaces have emerged just for recreational vehicles, including RV Share, Outdoorsy, and Campanda. There are many more, so research them all and then decide on one or two sites where you can increase your chances of reaching more renters. These sites are similar to how Airbnb work, offering a way to list your RV with photos and descriptions as well as a payment system and assistance with any issues.

Just remember to consider the costs along with the money you can make. There may be some fees and commissions as well as maintenance and cleaning costs. However, over time, you will get more out of it than having it sit there doing nothing.

    TaskRabbit

Another way to put your handy skill to work is to join TaskRabbit. The site matches people with other people who have odd jobs that need to be done. Think of it as a marketplace for handymen. The site offers gigs that are valued at a wide range of pricing and options for short- and long-term jobs. The result can be a hundred or so dollars a week up to a couple of thousands.

TaskRabbit offers people known as “Taskers” easy access to potential clients rather than having to do the marketing themselves. That means you can go on their site, scroll through jobs, and who you’re interested in. Once you get a job, you can collect payment less TaskRabbit’s 20% service fee for getting you the gig.

Not everyone can make thousands of dollars a month on this site, but those that do have multiple handyman skills. They are also flexible and willing to take on all types of jobs, including carpentry, construction, furniture assembly, repairs, minor renovations, junk collection, and more. It’s a good idea to have a wide selection of tools and the desire to do quality work. The more you can offer these traits, the better the reviews, and the greater the potential to win gigs on TaskRabbit.

    DIY Videos and Online Tutorials

If you have ever had an issue around the house or are curious about how to do something yourself, you may have turned to YouTube for tutorial videos. Two or more hours later, you resurface from binge-watching these YouTube tutorials and you know how to fix the toilet or replace a shower head.

That’s good, but what’s even better is if you are the person able to make those DIY videos because, over time, you’ll be able to make money online with those skills and videos. First, you can connect an Adsense account to your YouTube channel and make money by having those ads at the start of your tutorial/DIY videos. It’s easy to set up but the passive income is tiny.

That’s okay because you can do more to make money on top of that at the same time with these videos. You can also add affiliate links and sell items like downloadable eBooks, courses, or products through an online store that aligns with your DIY skills. You might even have a service or repair business that you can promote to win customers. This money maker nets more revenue than Adsense, but there is no guarantee that you can win customers.

The biggest way to make money on DIY videos is to include sponsored content. If you gain sponsors and include content related to them that can help your audience, it gets you the most money through this type of online gig. However, you’ll need to build your following and YouTube channel subscribers up to get a sponsor so this will take considerable time to get and convert into revenue.

    Private Label Products on Amazon

If you’re interested in making money online by starting your own online business, an effective way to do so involves selling private label products through Amazon’s Fulfilled-by-Amazon (FBA) program. It takes a minimal investment of money but a significant amount of time to research, plan, execute, and manage.

The most important thing is to brainstorm the type of private label products you want to sell. Keep an eye on what’s trending and what may be up-in-coming where you could stand out and also satisfy demand. It’s good to go to crowdfunding sites where people are introducing their new product ideas to see what you could connect with and help them while you also build a lucrative business.

You’ll also want to do market research to study the audience, trends, environment, and competition. Other factors include identifying high-volume products so you can sell a higher amount of them each month. Look for suppliers and manufacturers you can partner with, including platforms like Alibaba.

Once you decide on the product(s), it’s time to create your own packaging, design, and logo as a private label company. You can find help with this from some of the gig sites already on this list. You’ll be getting your product ready to market while assisting fellow gig workers.
You’ll also need to determine what fulfillment strategy to use. You can fulfill from a garage or warehouse, or you can opt to go with a third-party fulfillment center to ship your goods. When you do the Amazon program for your private label products, you can leverage Amazon’s own internal fulfillment service known as FBA.

With all those aspects of your private label business in place, you can now create your Amazon listing. You’ll need professional photos, a specific listing title, and descriptive content that sells your product for you. Keywords are a must if you want your target audience to find you.

From there, the Amazon program does much of the work for you. However, you should still use other tactics to optimize your results, including Amazon PPC where you can bid on “sponsored ads.” This may take some time to get right as will the pricing and product mix, but it’s a business that can net you a good profit along with the other jobs on this list.

    Errand Services

With a shifting work environment that has moved to the home and the ongoing threat associated with viruses like COVID-19 not to mention hectic schedules, more people are relying on errand services to do things like buy groceries and deliver food and beverages from restaurants and cafes.

Companies like Instacart, Shipt, Postmates, Door Dash, Uber Eats, and GrubHub offer many part-time positions that are designed to fit your freelance schedule. You’ll get a fee plus a tip from the customer you are delivering for and can sign up for gigs through apps when you are available.

The more gigs you take, you are then in the running for some of the more premium orders that are larger and yield a higher fee and most likely larger tip. This may take many orders to achieve plus you’ll need to provide excellent service to get the best rating and review from your customers.

There is no skill required to get this job, but you will need to deliver good service in a timely fashion, be friendly, and offer effective communication. There is wear and tear on your vehicle to consider but other than that the overhead costs are very low for the potential money you will make.

    Babysitting or Childcare Through Care.com

Care.com is a good site to sign up for if you have the time and patience to watch other people’s kids or even their pets. There are all types of options — from one-off babysitting gigs for an evening to daycare hours to weekend or regular nanny services. The site also covers gigs for walking and caring for pets. You can find local gigs and get paid a decent hourly wage for your services.

You will pay some fees for having the site connect you to jobs instead of you doing it on your own. Many of these gigs can turn into regular opportunities if you provide loving care and service for clients. Hourly wages are anywhere from the going minimum wage in your area to a higher rate of between $20 and $30 per hour, depending on the gig, area of the country, and the number of children or pets you may be asked to watch at one time.

Frequently Asked Questions for Making Money Online

Now that you have seen all the incredible ways to make money online, you may be ready to get started. If you still have some questions or concerns about taking control over your career and leveraging the lucrative digital career options, here are some frequently asked questions that I’ve been asked over the last few years that might help you, too.

How can I make $1 a day online?

You can make a dollar a day online easily from any of the jobs on this list. The lower-paying gig jobs that fall into this category include surveys, contests, and AdSense intros to your YouTube videos. Clearly, you want to make more than a dollar a day so aim higher for more lucrative jobs on the list that don’t require a degree or certification like customer service.

    How can I make $50 a day?

To make $50 a day or more, try sites like Fiverr, Instacart, Postmates, Wag for dog-walking, and TaskRabbit. Each of these offers some simple gigs that don’t require much of your time but that do offer close to or about the same as minimum wage.

There are some top-paying hourly rate jobs on this list, but these require more skills and experience to achieve a higher rate per hour. For example, a freelance writer, developer, or social media expert can easily make $50 per hour. Even on TaskRabbit, a skilled carpenter or construction worker can hit this hourly rate option.

    How can I make $100 a day?

You can make a hundred dollars a day most often from sharing economy gigs like renting out your home, RV, and vehicle as well as driving for Uber or Lyft. However, you can also do extremely well with other options like selling courses, making DIY videos, and offering your design or creative services.

How can I make $100 a day online without investment?

Besides the flexibility and decent pay, the other good thing about these gigs is that they tend to have low overhead. It’s difficult to pinpoint a gig that doesn’t require any investment. Some that require minimal investment are those where you may already have the skills and knowledge, such as marketing, driving, shared economy gigs, writing and editing, errands, and tasks.

How can I make money fast online?

While we all want to make money online as fast as possible, all of these gigs do require some time to develop and grow into revenue machines. Most can start earning you good money within a month or year of getting started. It all depends on how much marketing and effort you make to develop your audience and following.

How do I make an extra $1,000 online?

Over time, you can make an extra $1,000 at any of these online gigs — some faster than others. For example, if you rent out your home, in a month, you could easily earn $1,000. Dip into the stock market or cryptocurrency investment environments, and you could make that in a day or week (but you could also lose it just as quickly!). Again, it’s up to you and your determination to grow your online gig opportunities.

Am I guaranteed to make money?

The only guarantees in life are death and taxes. Therefore, there are no guarantees that you will make money. But, I can state that it’s made me a millionaire and created a much higher income for many of my colleagues and others I’ve met than they would have made from sticking with a regular job. You will also be rewarded with greater control over your career and life thanks to the flexibility of most of these gigs.

What do  I need to know before getting started as a member of the gig economy?

When it comes to joining the ever-growing gig economy by making money online, there are many things to consider before giving up that traditional job. You will need to think about things like time management, hourly rates, and skills. Beyond that, there are other decisions and factors to weigh.

    Taxes

Taxes should be the first thing you think about when you start to make money online. That’s because these jobs don’t take out income taxes. You get paid a gross amount. That means taxes will be taken later. And, if you are not an LLC or a corporation, you’ll be paying income tax and self-employment tax. Or, if you have a corporate structure, you’ll be paying other types of taxes. Either way, the IRS wants a chunk of that online change.

Manage your income and keep it separate so you can also be sure to take tax deductions and maximize the ways to reduce that stated income so taxes don’t impact your cash.

    retirement taxes

    Liability

Depending on the type of online money-making gig you pursue and whether or not you’ll be launching an actual business, you may want to incorporate. This helps protect your personal assets should anything come up that might adversely impact those assets. For example, if you are sued, then they can’t take your home or other assets if you are incorporated. Talk to a lawyer and accountant to understand how to minimize your liability.

    Gig Selection

You might be checking off and planning to do half the items on this gig list but you only have so much time. Plus, you don’t want to take on so much that you do badly at many things rather than awesome at one or two things. Focus on those gigs that match your skill set, your available time, and growth opportunity.

How to Avoid Make Money Online Scams

Many people have told me they are afraid to sign up for online gigs because they have heard so many horror stories about those falling victim to online scams.

Here are some things you can do to avoid these make-money scams.

    • Check if the company has a Better Business Bureau profile. This can be a good indicator if they are an online scam or not.
    • Verify the company pays its bills. I like testing them before I put in a great deal of time.
    • Know that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is, and start running in the opposite direction.
    • Avoid anything that makes big promises like making money in just minutes.
    • Research companies offering online gigs. If you can’t find anything about them, then you may want to pass.
    • Stick to the well-known and recognized gig and sharing economy platforms.
    • Read all the small print.
    • Stay away from anything that makes you pay money upfront to join.
    • Be wary of any online gigs that don’t actually explain what you will be doing.

Pros and Cons of Making Money Online with Online Gigs

I can’t say enough about making money online. It changed my career and earnings potential; and has continued to do so for me and thousands like me. However, to be fair, I have created a list of pros and cons that you need to think about in relation to your own life before joining us online money-makers.

    Pro: Unlimited Earnings

The biggest pro is access to unlimited earning potential. What you make is based on what you go after, how much you hustle, and how you continue to diversify and add other revenue streams. If you are determined and diligent, you will add more money to your bank account at a faster rate than a traditional job.

    Pro: Expanded Skills

With the potential to make more through adding to your skills, you are more set on adding skills and knowledge to do so. You’ll try new technology like platforms and apps as well as tools that help you do these online gigs.

    Pro: Flexibility and Control

You’ll be able to set your own hours, decide how and where to work, and figure out the right amount of hours for you and your goals. This level of control allows you to prioritize differently than having to navigate your life around your job. You can put your personal life, including your spouse, kids, and, yes, yourself first.

    Pro: Longer Money Streams

Even as you reach retirement, many of these gigs can continue to pay you money through passive income streams. This makes it so you don’t have to start tapping into that retirement savings just yet.

    Con: Pressure

The access to so much work also means you could take on too much and become overwhelmed by everything. Or, if you have never run your own business, you may not realize the pressure of decisions about taxes, legal issues, and the unexpected that arises from the challenges that go into running a business.

This is especially true for those trying to maintain their regular job while building outside hustles. At some point, you may need to jump ship and go into freelance full-time. Not everyone is cut out for this type of work, either.

    Con: Hidden Expenses

The earnings are easy to see. It’s the hidden costs that can get you if you don’t know what they are and plan for them. You don’t want these expenses to eat into your profits.

Depending on how you make money online, there could be various costs. These include: equipment costs, asset depreciation, shipping fees, supplies, marketing, maintenance, licenses, and insurance to consider. Look for ways to keep these low and always make a budget.

    Con: Little to No Benefits

The last con is that most are gigs that are temporary or part time. That means you won’t get any benefits like you would at a traditional job. That means no health insurance, paid sick days, paid vacation, or paid leave. You also won’t get access to other perks like reimbursements for equipment or supplies nor will you get things like a retirement account or pension.

All of these will come out of your gig income if you want/need them as an individual or for family. If your spouse gets those benefits, then it may work out. Or, if you do well with your online business, these benefits can offer some tax incentives for you. You will just need to decide if there is room to purchase these items and even if you want to. This is especially true if you are accustomed to working for an employer where you always received them.

The Bottom Line on Making Money Online

It’s great to earn extra income through these online ways to make money. It’s been an incredible journey for me and others like me, transforming how I look at work and income potential. Working online has given me an opportunity to spend more time with family; as well as go anywhere I want and continue to get my work done.

We owe a lot to the evolution of technology to make these online gigs possible. Just 20 years ago, most works were still in a traditional format. Company perspectives are shifting; thus gig workers are set to surpass traditional workers in the next few years. And, because of COVID-19, this may happen even sooner.

Just remember that these side gigs require hard work and time to cultivate into higher income and greater potential. There are no overnight money makers — only the schemes to look out for that promise the impossible.

However, those who work hard, stay focused, and set specific goals will thrive in the gig economy; as well as optimize how you make money online.
