4 Ways to Prepare Your Email List for Black Friday Specials

Take Advantage of the Upcoming Holiday Season

I used to be anti Black Friday. That is, until I ran an experiment last year to see if I could make money with a promotion on that day.. Well, I did. As a result, Black Friday will be a part of my marketing plan from now on.

Why Black Friday is a Good Day to Make Money

What I’ve come to notice is that people are ready to spend money on Black Friday. Not only are they ready for it, but they are expecting to do it.

Furthermore, not everyone wants to buy stuff. There’s a market out there that is ready, willing and able to spend money on infoproducts on that day.

Last year, I sent out a simple email offering some discounts to some courses and products. I made hundreds of dollars that day. Because one of the offerings was for my membership site, I also continued making money every month as a result of that one Black Friday email.

How to Prepare Your Email List for Sales

As I mentioned, last year was a total experiment for me. This year, I am much more conscious of what I’m doing. I also know I can actually get results. Here are some of the ways I plan on preparing my business for the biggest retail sales event of the year.

Choose the products you will put on sale.

As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m a big fan of the Pareto Principle. This means I will likely choose two or three products that I know perform well sales-wise.

Additionally, I don’t want to overwhelm my audience with choices. One of my lessons from last year was that I offered discounts on too many products during Black Friday which led to Paradox of Choice.

Create pre-event emails.

I’m writing emails leading up to Black Friday long before it even arrives. These emails are meant to alert my list that Black Friday specials are coming and they can expect them.

This is one thing I did not do last year because my Black Friday email was spontaneous. I’m expecting that by letting people know deals are coming, that more will be ready to purchase products.

Create day of emails.

After you’ve written the emails leading up to Black Friday, you need to write the actual Black Friday emails. The good news is by this point you’ve already prepped and primed your audience for sales so many of them will be ready to purchase.

The key here is to create a sense of urgency for your customers by letting them know this is a limited time offer.

Create post-event emails.

One thing that worked really well for me last year was when I extended the sale on an item I noticed performed very well on during the sale event.

Based on it’s popularity, I sent out a series of emails letting people know I was extending the sale. I also created a sense of urgency letting them know I would not be offering this product again for another twelve months.

Final Thoughts

Black Friday is an excellent day to make some quick money because people are already expecting to spend money on that day. By prepping ahead of time, you can get a piece of the Black Friday pie.
